I use Tuneup Utilities 2004. If you have questions about it, you can send me a personal message. If you want it for a very good price, e-mail me.

In addition to Wooch's reply - MS also do not recommend that you use MSConfig to control start-up programmes - it is supposed to be used for 'troubleshooting' only - when you do use it the first restart afterwards pops-up with a warning box stating that Windows is starting in 'Selective Start-up' mode (with a option "Do not show this message again") - but it means that Windows will always be starting in a 'Selective Start-up mode'.

No idea if it makes any practical difference to not starting in 'Selective Start-up mode' but with MS why take the chance?

excellent question!!!

guess one answer though would be UI. with an icon available, one's only a click away to access these particular utilities vs start->run->type "msconfig"! i believe there's a way to set up a short cut for msconfig but i haven't tinkered with it myself.

needless to say i use "msconfig" but also have found WinPatrol to be handy for more than just one purpose.

I just installed Startup Inspector and found it really easy to use. However, it will NOT get rid of Logmein, even though I have all the entries unchecked. Does anyone else have this problem? I also installed Startup Control Panel and did not find the entry there at all!

GiGi - I have found this with certain entries, namely ones that are starting from other places in the registry. Did the consult return any more info on this entry?

wooch, this is what the consult says:

Required: User's choice
Startup Location: LM Run
Memory Usage: 5.1 MB
Peak Memory Usage: 5.1 MB
Comments: RemotelyAnywhere is the most flexible remote administration and remote control solution for Windows. It allows access to the host computer via the network (the LAN, an intranet or the Internet) - and on the client side all you need is a web browser, a terminal emulator or a WAP-enabled phone.

I'm not sure what "LM Run" refers to, but perhaps this is one of the "other places in the registry?" This is unfortunate since Logmein takes A LONG TIME to load!

Mr Wooch - ran SIW today - it found a number of programmes that I didn't even know where running (and Gigi, these weren't showing up in MSconfig either & LM stands for 'Local Machine').

Three of the programmes were conflicting BT drivers!!! (MS XP2 version, Logitech BT desktop, and an older USB BT dongle that I had).

I have been trying to troubleshoot a problem that I have been having in syncing my Nokia mobile (6230) with BT for about a month, where it would keep trying to reinstall the BT software (but if the installation was cancelled half a dozen times) it sync'd anyway (which was making it difficult to track down).

Disabled two of the BT drivers (MS and the older Widcomm one), rebooted and now all is sweet.

Thanks for the link to the software, will be using from now on :approve: - now I have to go and perform a new ghost back-up so that I don't have to keep going doing this

(BTW this is my 200th post - and I think that it being a reply to you is fairly apt)

Cheers

Rob

I use the same Startup Inspector and found it great, and I also use the following application to clean the registry. As dangerous as cleaning the registry is I have not had any problems. But please be careful. Here is the link to the application Easy Cleaner. http://personal.inet.fi/business/toniarts/ecleane.htm I hope this program is helpful to you also.
