victorypoint....

I followed your instructions, but when I try to connect cerdisp via wifi all I get is a LLLLOOOONNNNGGGG delay (~ 1 min.) and then cerdisp on the PPC reports that it "Cannot Connect".

Are there firewall issues (i.e. ports to open, etc.) when using cerdisp via wifi? I'm stuck with using USB unless someone has other advice.... :rolling:

Everything else I run using my X5 with WM2003 and wifi (WEP encryption, no SSID broadcast) works like a champ, so the problem I'm having with cerdisp can't be my wifi connection (unless cerdisp requires special firewall settings, etc.).

Are you connecting to your PPC over a LAN or Internet? If LAN there should be no firewall issues unless your blocking ports on your PC with some software.

1. Make sure both PC and PPC (WiFi) are connected to the network.

2. Fire up ActiveSync_Remote_Display on your PC.

3. Fire up cerdisp on your Ax, click on Connect, and type in the name of your PC (as shown in Control Panel\System\Computer Name tab.

Hope that helps.

I already did all of that, and I all I got via WiFi was the "Cannot Connect" message when cerdisp timed out on my X5 after ~ 1 minute.

Any other suggestions? I have my WiFi set up on my X5 to connect to "Work". That setting works fine for everything else I use via WiFi, but is cerdisp particular to connecting to "The Internet"?

Sorry Quovadis7, I should have been more clear on Step #1. Step #1 should say "Establish an ActiveSync connection between Ax and PC via WiFi", not establish a network connection. You should be able to browse files on your Ax from your PC via ActiveSync, Add/Remove programs, do backups, etc. (just like if it was connected via USB). Do you have this working at least?

Once that's working, fire up ActiveSync_Remote_Display on your PC. You should see a blank window and receive no error messages. On your Ax, you should see the following dialogue box message, "Can't find PPP_PEER". This is normal so just click OK.

Now fire up Cerdisp on your Ax (make sure ActiveSync is still running and connected in the background), click on Connect, type in the name of your host PC (the one connected via ActiveSync) and clikc OK. You should now see your Ax display in the Remote Display window on your PC.

Let us know how you make out.

Great, will try it tonight... isn't the installation a bit elaborate though?

Thanks for the clarification wrt 1st requiring an ActiveSync connection via WiFi for cerdisp to connect - I definitely didn't have the ActiveSync connection established before trying to use cerdisp via WiFi. Seems strange to me that ActiveSync is needed for cerdisp to connect via WiFi, but not for USB....

I almost always use ActiveSync via WiFi to sync anymore, so I'm fully expecting success by following your method. Unfortunately, I'll have to wait until after my current business trip before I can try it out.

Thanks a LOT for the extra effort you made in clarifying this though! :approve:

Actually, ActiveSync IS needed to work over USB as well. The nice thing about the USB connection is that cerdisp runs automatically on the Ax when Remote Display is fired-up on the PC.
