FREEWARE: PPC Displayed on your desktop PC monitor

rCE REMOTE DISPLAY is a freeware program which lets you display your PocketPC on your Windows PC Desktop.

You can also use your Desktop Keyboard and Mouse to enter data onto this display, as if you were using the popup PDA keyboard and the Stylus.

The program uses activesync to transfer data between your PPC and the desktop, so the connection has a slight lag.

To use it, just download the program from the above link and unzip the files.

Then copy the appropriate DLL file from either the ARM, MIPS, SH3 or SH4 folder into your PPC's Windows folder. It is a tiny file.

Then click on the execute the rCE.exe file on your Windows Desktop PC to run the program.

A small blank PDA sized screen will display on your PC monitor.

Click on "File" in the menu bar of this PDA screen, and select Options.

Set both Picture radio buttons to 24bit, to give you a high quality display on your PC.

Then make sure your PPC is connected to your desktop PC, and activesync is running, and select "Connect" from the "File" menu in rCE.

You should then see your PPC displayed on the PC screen.

You can now use either your Mouse and Keyboard to control the PPC, or you can control the PPC using your stylus, and see it change on the PC display.

The included readme.txt file is in Japanese, so this is why I gave you instructions above.

One potential use for this program is for screen captures. But I'm sure there are many other uses as well.

I just tried this out. What a neat little freeware program!
It is actually quite responsive when using the keyboard and mouse on the pc and it refreshes the window fairly quickly.
A nice upgrade to this app would be to make the pc window resizable.

Which version of the DLL

Should I use for the X30. I know this is a dumb question, but I always get confused on the processor family.

Thanks!

Microsoft's freebie CERDISP is another option. Can be executed exclusively from your desktop, no action required from Axim and works across TCPIP, WIFI...

yep, rCE is an old classic. I've been using it for years... even works on the Casio BE-300. It is the most responsive remote control / display app that I've tried. And as RD100 mentioned, it is great for screencaps. It is what I use to easily capture screens.

I've been using this for a few months but I don't know how to make it start without me manually click connect and even then I sometimes/usually get "Unexpected cmd 2" "Unexpected cmd 1".

Any suggestions?

CERDISP and Wi-Fi ???

Me too. I have to manually connect using CERDISP, so I'm curious how to connect automatically via only the desktop application.

Also, I can only connect with CERDISP via the USB cable. Any suggestions on how to connect via Wi-Fi?

Since Wi-Fi provides a faster data rate, I'm wondering if it will cut the delay compared to when I use CERDISP via the USB cable connection....

Same. Got it to work over USB but not over WiFi.

Okay, figured it out. When using over USB, Certdisp connects automatically. When using over WiFi, you need to fire up certdisp on the Ax, click connect, and type in the computer name of the PC.

Alt-PrintScreen then paste into your favorite image editing program.
