Have searched thru the forums for comments on different substitues for PIE.
I'll be trying out the different trials.
Would appreciate users responding to the poll so I can get a summary view of preferences.
Respond to thread if I missed any.
Thanks.

I don't care about multiple windows and full screen..those are just bells and whistles.
I want an IE replacement that actually knows how to RESIZE images on a VGA screen so I don't have to reset into SE_VGA/OZ_VGA everytime I want to see how browsing should be done on a VGA PPC :(
I suppose Netfront comes close, but its just zooming, not resizing.
I want a fundamentally sound browser!
Now someone make me one! :)

If I'm not mistaken, I believe Opera does all of that. Unfortunately, it's not available yet for the PPC market (AFAIK). It is presently being used on the Linux OS 2.4 based handheld, however, such as the Sharp Zaurus SL-6000. That is one impressive handheld that is very very fast, but just a bit too big IMO.
I just started using multiIE. Very impressive. I particularly like the button mapping and Page loaded event sound options. The Page loaded event sound options are very handy when you are mobile using Bluetooth and you run into a graphics intensive webpage. You don't have to keep checking your screen to find out when it's done.
I swear by MultiIE. I've tried ftxpBrowser, I own Netfront and I had a subscription to ThunderHawk. By far, MultiIE is the best of the bunch.
I personally don't like the sounds, but I can see how one would want to use it in the manner you do, Don't Panic. That's actually pretty cool. :approve:
I hope that Microsoft completely overhauls PIE. They need to seriously get a clue. Out of the "box" PIE is almost completely useless. Why is it that little upstart programers can come up with things like MultiIE and Netfront yet a BILLION dollar company, the richest in the world, can't get their asses out of the stone ages?!? There's so much crap on Windows Mobile. I hope M$$$$ takes a good look at the major shortcomings of the Windows Mobile platform and does something about it, especially PIE.

Been using MultiIE since before it was, back when all there was to enhance Pocket IE was the same developer's early freeware called TapRight. That alone became addictive. Going back to single window PIE was intolerable. With MultiIE in several versions have come so many improvements, more than I want to use, though not all the ones I'd like.
Unfortunately Peter is stuck with some of the limits imposed on him by Pocket IE. Even ftxPBrowser is better able to do a couple of things, such as saving images with PHP encoded pages, because it works outside the confines of a PIE window. Microsoft seems deliberately to have crippled PIE.
I use NetFront for banking, a few other things, but generally prefer PIE because it's snappier and because I'm used to it. I'd miss the context menus of MultiIE too much if NetFront were my default browser. And anyway, when I tried using the default browser option in NetFront 3.1 it didn't work. A tapped link in an email would open the browser, then nothing would load. Maybe 3.2 will be better... if they ever launch it. Sure, Access announced it a couple of months ago or more, but does anyone have a copy?
I am curious about Minimo when/if it gets released for a CE-based PPC. Right now it's said to be testing out well on a Linux-running PPC, but the footprint is anything but 'minimo', something over 10MB I read somewhere. If it's even half the browser FireFox 1.0 is on a PC I'd be quite happy to use that, especially if it runs okay from a card. They've made a port of FireFox that'll run from a USB keychain drive, without a cache (to minimize disc-writes and thus extend flash drive lifespan), so running Minimo from SD or a file store shouldn't be so hard, right?

I have not had that problem. When I use a link in an email or a link in Flexwallet the page opens correctly in Netfront.

Are you saying that you use a browser that loads PHP pages and works with them interactively?
So what is your question? All browsers for PPC load such pages. My complaint was about saving them. I just tried saving this one, then opening it in a new blank window. Wouldn't open. PIE just kept flashing, failing to load and trying every 1/2 second or so.
Tried Minimo 0.5 last night on my WM2003 X5. No toolbar. No tap&hold menus. The only real way 'out' beyond the sample links seems to be a Google search... but then there's no Back button. It's a beta, I realise. Very early yet. The 11.5MB package will need a lot of refining and new features, and should drop to at most 6MB or so. As it sits, it just closes most of the time when trying links or scrolling.
