I think you're talking about "Dashboard" or rather "Snoopsoft Dashboard". It's a today plugin that lets you organize your today screen into 5 pages. Nice skins as well.

a dashboard is usually an app that gives you a status readout of your PC/PPC, usually with gauges or bars that represent things like battery life or available storage

Well.......lemme put it to ya thisaway.......

I've used both GigaBar and DashBoard on every PDA since my B&W UniPro 100A (upgraded as upgrades are offered). I keep one backup on every PC, SD Card, CF Card and any other storage media I can think of, at all times, that contains nothing but My Device + both of these apps' basic (customized-to-my-liking) settings. I also do a Full Daily Sprite BackUp to my SD Card.

But this one basic BackUp is everywhere I can think to put it....for one simple reason:

I would be totally lost trying to use My Device in it's "out-of-the-box" configuration.
I might be able to turn it on.......maybe.

It's interesting when I hear you say that (or type it) because I got my axim on Dec 19 and that was the first time that I've ever used Windows mobile. I had a Palm Tungsten T3 before. So I don't find the "out of the box" Today screen that boring yet. I tried a couple of Today plugins but I didn't feel comfortable with them. No doubt in a few months I will be dying to change my Today screen.

Incidently, I couldn't be happier with my Axim X50v. It's so much better than my Palm T T3. I was quite reluctant to stop useing Palm but I got tired of waiting for them to catch up all the time. Now I'm really pleased that I did.

It's not the appearance........it's the functionality these two apps off that I am now so dependent on.

Each of the icons on the right in GigaBar is a multiple shortcut, including the clock:
Tap, Double Tap, Tap+dragRight, Tap+dragLeft, Tap+dragUp/Down and Tap&Hold (which drops down a list of the 5Taps + 5 more shortcuts that you can Tap to activate. Each of these shortcuts can be to a File, Folder, Application, System Action, Utility.......whatever you want.

DashBoard offers Many Multiple Pages of Desktop-like Shortcuts plus Today PlugIns......and a "QuickLaunch" bar at the bottom that is always there (when on the Today Screens) for even simpler activations. .

Like I said, I simply couldn't navigate on an out-of-the-box device. I would quite literally be a n00bie if I had to. Hence, I keep that one special backup available at all times. It rarely has to be updated since it is only for emergency basic operation and is simply a fallback in case my SD Card with my two days worth of Full BackUps gets lost or corrupted somehow. It can even be used to Clone onto my X5basic that I use for a Remote for my HT, should my X5advanced have "something unspeakable" happen to it
