Major issue with Pocketdvd Studio

I realize this is not a PC site, but since I installed Pocketdvd Studio to download movies to my Axim X30, I thought I would share my problem here and see if anyone knows the solution.

I installed Pocketdvd Studio 3 to my Windows XP Home PC and also installed Divx and Xvid codecs. When I do this, I have to make sure the WMP10 is not my default DVD player because it is not supported. No problem, because I also have PowerDVD. I make PowerDVD my default dvd player. The issue is that whenever I install Studio and the codecs my computer cannot locate directx any longer. I have to go back and do a system restore to the point before I installed Pocketdvd Studio!! Any thoughts?

i am having problems with pocket dvd studio myself. when i purchased it originally it was version 1.2.6.1. And it worked fantastic. i have cyberlink power dvd. whenever i try to upgrade dvd studio, dvd studio no longer works. i just tried 3.0 and it tells me powerdvd is no longer recognized?!? i just did an uninstall and redid 1.2.6 version. that works great but i would like to be able to utilize the updated version. i have installed all the divx and xvid codecs without it working. i emailed the company and they basically tell me to return to the previous version. any help?

I'm using WinDVD as my PC's dvd player and have not had any problems with PcoketDVD Studio. Dont know what to tell you. I have actually abandoned the software a bit and instead have been using FairUse Wizard to rip my DVDs.

Ok, thanks for the replies and I apologize for the double posts. I was not sure where to leave this post. I am going to abandon Pocketdvd Studio(and attempt to recoup my purchase price). I will try out a different program.

FairUse Wizard LE is freeware and works great (I should have mentioned that in my earlier post). I dont have the link but if you search the forum for "fairuse wizard" you should be able to find it.

I will try FairUse LE. Thanks for the suggestion. Are there codecs that I have to download in order to make it work on the SD card of my PPC?

What settings are you using to encode the video/audio? I dont remember if DVD Studio allows you to increase the volume of the encoded audio. If if does and you did increase the volume during encoding, this may be the cause of the popping sound. Check the audio encoding settings and if there is a volume control setting, set it to the middle of the bar. Then re-encode. Encoding audio at too high of a volume setting will give you distortion/popping/crackling/etc when played back so that is what I think is going on in your situation.

On the other hand, you may have a bum speaker on the Axim. Does the popping happen any other time?
