Vbar Color Change?
Hey guys,
I have been using Vbar 1.7 for awhile and truly love it, but one minor annoyance is that it does not change to the color of my themes. To demonstrate I took a screen shot (Look in the Top-Right corner where the Vbar arrow is located):
And I've been to settings and I have the box marked
"Use System Background"
checked, but still it will not change colors.
From what I have read, I thought that this issue was resolved in version 1.5, but this makes me suspect that it truly was not. Since I switch themes from day to day depending on my mood, I don't really have the time nor patience to find the color mappings for each of my themes. Does anyone have any information on this?
Thanks,
-Brad :)

I've always had that issue with vBar. I assumed that the Blue was the default system color for the app because that's the default theme on every PPC. I thought it was hardcoded to keep the footprint of the app smaller. You could try posting to their forum...

I will post a link to this thread over there and see if it get's a response.

Edit: Ok, I added a topic over there...

Now it's wait and see.

I looked into this a bit when I did my VGA conversion of vBar. I wasn't sure how to find the current theme's color. The code seems right, but it obviously doesn't do what we expect.
Since I'm accepting new programming challenges today for some reason (I've accepted some new changes to GSPlayer again.) I'll look into this too.

Jon-
Thanks so much for agreeing to try and figure this out! If you're successful vBar will be a real keeper. :)

Yeah. That's the problem. For those of us who change background themes often, it's a pain to find the right color/shade to match. An automatic mirroring of the today theme color would be MUCH easier.

Or, how about just allowing the utility to use .png files and have the images background be transparent? (Like WisBar used to be in the old days...)

Ok MS has made this as difficult as humanly possible, but I think I have some insights into it. What I need you guys to do is to test my guess with the application I've attached here.
Unzip it and copy it (anywhere) to your device, and run it. When it loads, tap the "Best Guess!" button and a region of color should appear at the top. This color should (*hopes*) match the color of the right-hand side of the top bar.
If it does, post here about your success, and if you'd like, just the name of the theme you tested it on and which version of Windows Mobile you use (regular, SE, 5.0, 2002).
If it does not match, use the spin control and go through all 41 colors it presents. If any happen to match, post which numbers do here.
The refresh button will refresh the list of colors if you change themes while the program is running. Oh, and try this on a variety of themes if you can. The more info I collect, the better I can make this work.
Thanks!
Jon

Hi Jon-
I'm using WM2003SE and Juni's GoldenCut Theme.
The "Best Guess!" looks pretty good, to me!

Nice Jon! Your application worked with all the themes (7) I tested it on, except for the Windows Default. For that theme the matching color was found at number 8, 13 & 20. I am running an Axim X5 Adv. with WM2k3.
I am curious, are you reading the values from the registry found @ \HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Color? The key 8 should contain the color value for the right-side of the taskbar. Or are you somehow reading these from the theme file itself?

I am reading key "8", unless its not there (which seems to be the Windows Default Theme,) at which case if the key \Color exists at all, I guess the RGB that WM2003SE uses, but this must be different than the one WM2003 uses. I'll have to fix that. If the whole key doesn't exist at all, I ask the system for the titlebar color (which should be all I have to do, but of course doesn't work.)
The other 41 colors come from the SHColor key, and I'm trying to figure out what exactly those colors represent.
And where were you Saturday when I was trying to figure this out ;)
Jon
