Single Most Agitating thing so far-McAfee Antivirus PDA from Dell

Has been the purchase of the McAfee antivirus software from Dell.

Mcafee just will not register my copy and allow my copy to update the antivirus rules. I have been on the chat with them several times. Each time they give me a phone number and that number takes me to one of either of three places. One back to the chat area on the internet site. Second: to a 39$ per trouble ticket phone service and third to a 19$ per item phone service. All for a 15$ purchase.

I finally got an email telling me to send them a copy of the invoice. I did this by email and fax.

They apparently blew me off since I have not gotten the trial version reset to a one year subscription.

So if anyone is interested in getting the add-on virus from Mcafee, my advise is to pass...

BTW, if anyone is interested in McAfee products of any kind you, had better check out their service options first. Just how will they SERVICE YOU?

Steve

BTW, for personal use AirScanner antivirus and firewall is available for free use.

I'd not bother with AV for PPC right now anyway. But it's no excuse for bad service.

I am glad i am not the only one with this problem. Their online resource for fixing the problem and online chat sucks. I hate the idea of wasting $15.

I had this problem too. Got Dell to send new disk. Same problem. Had to go up three levels at the McAfee help desk.

They, Dell and McAfee, have a problem and they don't seem to be addressing it.

Ha ha. Reminds me a late night call with McAfee customer support months ago. I recall asking them if their product might not be more correctly referred to as McAfee VirusScam instead of VirusScan. I'm not sure, but they might have hung up on me after that.

All the AV will give you is a slow unit. Keep a good backup once a week and if something "happens" to get on your pda, hard-reset and restore from backup. Takes 5 minutes of prep-work (running the backup) to save a lot of headache.

Speaking of backups, time for me to run one...

i didn't bother with the McAffee. i had a tough time with Norton AV once upon a time, and now i stick with freeware -- AVG AV and ZoneAlarm firewall for my desktop, airscanner AV and firewall for my ppc!

for anyone who doesn't know, you can get the ppc stuff at www.airscanner.com

i highly recommend it :approve: - it's easy to use and update, and completely free! i recommend an AV cuz it's better to be safe than sorry...

I agree eve6grl02. I am planning on dumping McAfee from my laptop when my subscription runs out. I installed it on our home unit about 6 months ago and it refused to update. I contact support and they had be do a registry patch that made the update think McAfee was always updated. We went back in forth over this issue for 2 months and they never did fix it. So I am done, finished with McAfee. My home system now uses AVG and it works find. If I need to buy a copy in the future it will probably be Karpsky AntiVirus product since it is rated above 98 percent.

I had the same problem of it not reconizing my subscription, All it took was one phone call to Mcafee and for me to fax my invoice from Dell to them. Took them about 3 day to resolve it and now my subscription is good for 1 year. Seems like they did alright by me. Also I have Mcafee on my laptop and never had any issues with it at all. I guess I'm one of the lucky one's....
