The .NET framework let's a developer program in a "language" called .NET and allows your PPC to read and execute the program. The newer PPCs have it installed in ROM. eSword installs it just in case. It's similar to Java on your desktop. The SQL one allows the developer to store his/her data (ie - the Bibles and commentaries) in a simulated SQL server enviroment to keep the data compact and allow quick access to it. That's one of the reasons for the slow start up of eSword. It has to initialize SQL on your PPC as well. Does that help, or did I ramble?

Note: I know it's really not a language, but I'm trying to keep it simple. Also, don't start talking, "It ain't Java. It ain't crap!". Start a new thread for that... ;)

Laridian has released a VGA version of PocketBible. It may have actually been released for a while - I haven't seen any announcements and I don't remember getting an e-mail from them. I just happened to notice that there was a new version available to download when I logged into their site, and after installing I was excited to find that it was VGA! :approve:

Cool! Thanks for the tip, Josh.

Haven't installed it yet... have you noticed a big difference?

The date on it is "File Date: 7/12/2005 12:17:33 PM" so I'm guessing the email is still in route. I'm installing now, will play with it tonight. It'll still have to really move me to get me to seitch from OliveTree. I ditched Laridian after I bought the NIV in February due to lack of updates for VGA compatability. This release, while needed, may be too long coming (for me).

Thanks for the find and for posting it!

I just installed it, so I haven't had the time to figure out whether or not there are new features other than the VGA. But the VGA graphics make a HUGE difference. I thought the old QVGA version looked very fuzzy on my X50v.

A quick note on the tweaks2k2, I have found a freeware version and am just wondering how it stacks up to the full version? Sorry if this has already been posted, couldn't really find anything in the differences.

e-Sword does support VGA mode. I like the compare feature where you can have 2 or more versions of the bible displayed to compare text.
