Mozilla Browser For Ppc!

Im mobile right now but a wm2003 release of the mozilla browser has been released. This is beta now and I haven't had a chance to test it yet. News and a link are available on www.slashdot.org hopefully when im not mobile Ill post more on this (like some links) later. Anyone who knows about mozilla browsers may be as excited as I am!!

Links:

http://www.mozilla.org/projects/minimo/ - General Info about minimo

http://www.meer.net/~dougt/minimo_ce/ - download location *note* you should only need the newest version zip file. Extract to a location and copy the folder to your PPC.

*EDIT*
UPDATE 2/19/05
I've been in contact with the writer of minimo and he has asked users to note any bugs or requests they have. If you find a bug or have a request please shoot it my way via a PM or a post on the forum.

Tested thus far:
Minimo .002
Bugs/requests found:

1. Links clicked do not open the page (nor do buttons such as google's search button)

2. Full versions of site are loaded rather than mobile versions (this may be an issue with the code on the website rather than the browser, I'm not sure)

3. Highlighting of text has problems, no way to copy the text (?)

4. Future VGA support?

5. Scrolling issue's possible smooth scrolling in future releases?

6. Page shifting to see what you are typing if the keyboard covers the text entry field

7. Menu's that would normally pop by hitting the arrow to allow you to choose items (Like choosing your state from a list) do not seem to function and the arrow you would click appears as a very large button.

8. Support to minimize the browser via the X button (or to close the browser) would be beneficial.

That's very cool. I'd heard Mozilla was working on a PPC browser but wasn't expecting one yet. I'll have to check /. to find a link.

Anything is better than PIE I use MultiIE and ftxBrowser and they're Ok, but nothing spectactular...

Chris...

Just tried it out and as the article stated it is very rough. I'm looking forward to the next build. Be warned, you cannot close this app without a SOFT reset. Other than that it looks pretty neat. I'll post more info once I have time to play with it without the need to multi-task.

FlyACL, you use CoreComm? How can you stand them? I hate them... I get the WORST connections with them...

Anyway, this looks nice :-D

Well dont I feel stupid. After I post this I cant figure out how to install it. Does it need to first be compiled? There isn't a ton of documentation wit this. 30otsix, you were successfull with this, what did you do to get it installed?

*EDIT*

I got it running, the minimo .001 didn't work for me but the other one did. It's slow to start the program up, its not pretty at all but it does seem to load pages. I had some odd things happen like certain links when clicked on weren't opening pages and highlighting text wasn't right but I bet it will be much more functional very shortly. In the mean time I will fiddle with it.

Can anyone post some screenshots of minimo in action? Does it work in real VGA mode?

You dont want a screen shot yet...it is just buttons not even graphics. As said before its VERY roughly done. It is the first CE release ever give it some time to grow.

I dont think that is true. I installed minimo .002 from the download site and although the X in the program does nothing you can use the switcher bar to exit the program.

Minimo development is VERY slow. The linux version is very nice and barebones.

It will always load a little slow... 6 seconds is the fastest on the linux version I believe. Once it loads the rendering is fast and looks pretty nice.
