Home Voip Software
Has anyone herd of voip software that operates your own voip center. So you can use your Axim to make phone calls over the internet and connect to your home computer to make the call from your home phone.
thanks,
John

I've not heard of anything like that, but if you are using VoIP on the axim and can make a call over the internet, why would you need to control your home PC to make a call from your home phone?

Try a software called Asterisk ( www.asterisk.org). It is free and runs on Linux. It can act as a VoIP server and make calls via your ISDN line.

the main reason is to get rid of viop charges when on tbe road.
Why not go through your own computer and telephone.

I have used the vonage VOIP service. For $10 a month addtional. You can use softphone. Which I have run on my dell axim x50v using a bluetooth headset. The headset i have is a lil funky.

thanks for the replys. I just thought we have all this knowledge and computers, we should be able to hook up our own viop interconnect without going through a provider. I am checking into asterisk.org.
I will let everyone know how easy it is to get it up and running.

what youre looking for is a dialer for a pda...the asterik sever is basically, you have your own gateway with your fxo/fxs card on it, so youre acting like the provider....so all he really needs is the dialer software where he can program his own gateway into it....so anywhere he goes he can used his phone line as the provider....i am doing now..but not with a pda...have pics of it if you like.....

I saw a device you can connect to the computer and phone line to use a SIP dialer to connect and dial out your PSTN. Also the device could receive calls and route them out the SIP to you on a wifi. It works with SKYPE also. Looks like cost would be less than $100 US for hardware.

Do the various voip softwares talk among one another? Do Skype, softphone, and Stanaphone talk to one another?

That product looks very interesting. Has anyone tried it (or, I guess the combinatation of the two hardware products required)
