Big Smile PDAwin's TV Remote Controller v5.4 is out!!

PDAwin has just now put the newest version (v5.4) of TV Remote Controller on their website. They have now OFFICIALLY stated that the Axim will be supported by a new version of the PDA-ir CompactFlash infrared card, which reaches up to 60 feet. Here is the quote from their website on Axim support:

Quote:
Toshiba e740 and Dell Axim X5 new!(CF card extender) - click here
note: PDA-ir extender is not compatible with the iPAQ H19xx & H54xx series and non listed PDAs.
note: For Dell Axim X5 new version of CF card is needed!
However, when clicking the link to the CF card extender (made by Electronic Dog Ventures), there is no mention of the Axim card on their website. I'm assuming that it must still be in production, and not yet available for order still.

No. Axim IR port is too weak for that. It has a range of about 4 to 6 feet at the most.

What about Dell's supposed patch to fix the poor IR hardware?

Any chance that could fix the poor range? Or is that just for sparadic beams? I'm running out of room in my case for more CF cards.

The PDA-ir card is only intended for use with the PDAwin TV Remote software. I guess it's possible to someone to write drivers for it to use with regular beaming applications, but as of now I don't think any exist.

I am a new member to this board as of today - but I have great news for everyone.

I just received an email from Dane Houston regarding the IR extender - It now officially supports the Axim!

It hasn't yet been updated on the web page, but he says he'll try to do so this weekend.

I have had my Axim for a few days now, but I haven't unboxed it, since I wasn't sure if I'd keep it (With Dell's crazy promotions, I'll have paid $224 (after rebate) for it). Now, after reading through this site and seeing all the fun things I can do with it, I think I might! I've already called Dell and ordered their screen protectors and a 256 mb flash card for ~$50 (again after promotions).

Yes, I saw the same news. Dave Houston, for those of you who don't know is the creator of the PDA-ir CF IR Extender. He says that they should be shipping the Axim-compatible version within 7-10 days. This news was as of yesterday, by the way.

i got my Axim 400mhz for $199.10 after all the discounts and applied $25 from signing up for Dell Credit.

we all know that the axim IR sucks ass, but what's the typical range on a unit with a good IR? say the ipaqs for example?

Big Smile Great News

This is great news...One of the reasons why I bought my axim was to use it as a multifunction remote for my home entertainment system. Please let us know ASAP when the CF card from electric dog that is compatible with the Axim becomes available.

Good News everyone! Regarding the TV Remote controller 5.4 from PDAwin.com they have available shareware version for download on their site. Check this out! http://www.pdawin.com/. Although there are some limitations but it still works. I do have a registered version and used it for a couple days and its great! I can control any appliances at home but the builtin IR suckz coz the range is about a meter. I Hope somebody can develop to boost the builtin IR range. Although there is an option of a CF IR extender that costs you extra $. For me, the software has a great features such as voice command, timer, it can learn commands for customization as well.

Hope this could help.

Steguis,

I just got back in town today....checked EDV's website, and it now says that it supports Axim on their website. I went ahead and ordered. I suggest putting a note in the Comment field on the checkout form, to please ship the newly designed PDA-ir that is Axim-compatible. I'll post in a week or so when I receive my card and let everyone know how it works.

wait up, so that IR device that you stick in the earphone jack is going to support axim soon? or did I hear wrong, I wouldnt invest in a CF IR extender, but if it goes into the aerphoen jack that would be awesome!

Nope sorry,

I ordered the CF card IR extender (PDA-ir). The headphone-jack based one will never work with Axim X5. Possibly future Axim models if Dell installs a normally amplified headphone jack.
