Question RealOne for PPC

Has anyone used this?

How well does it work with ram files?

Is there a viewer that allows you to view them along with other formats?

Or how can I convert Real Media files to avi or mpg?

RealOne works with RAM files. It doesn't support any RAM file with security in it so no MLB Baseball or CNN news. You can convert them using Real Producer. There is a free version.

hmm... good luck getting the RealOne Player to work properly on your Axim. I tried several versions of it and played with all the settings and never could get it to function properly. Most of the time I'd get audio but no video, and when I did get video the player would pause and act like it was streaming from a website (I had the file locally on the Axim).

SO I'm not sure if I overlooked an important setting or if there are just issues with this program. I should mention that all other A/V programs work great on my Axim.

If you do get it to work properly I'd be interested in learning the settings you chose.

Do these other players allow you to view ram files?

Or do you need to convert them first?

Would the files be bigger or smaller than the original ram file?

This probably depends on the new format and compression used too.

I did some searches on this a while back and couldn't find any programs that would play the RealOne format OR convert it. Someone posted a guide with a workaround for converting a RealOne file using a screen capture procedure but it never worked for me. I just gave up and decided to stick with divx/wmv. Hopefully they'll work out the bugs with the player.

There was a time when Real player was a small well behaved program that was so cool, it was an almost essential program for every system. Unfortunately, something at Real went awry and RealOne became a bloated unfriendly missbehaving mess. I've long since banned all Real ware from my systems and I'm not letting it near my Ax!

There are not any other programs that are not 10megs in size?

That program might bee too much for just converting Real Media video files to another format.
