In "Activation" settings there's an option to show the menu before the icons are loaded. This will happen in a background task. However, while the menu is redrawn (when new icons are loaded) there'll be a small delay. Moreover, some devices almost completely paralyze the system when the storage card is accessed. So it might happen the menu appears faster but still won't respond to button presses...

Well, I am pointing to the links in \Windows\Start Menu, not actual programs, will it still attempt to follow the link on startup ? If so, is there a way to turn icons off altogether ?
