How to select email account when sending email from PDA

For the past 2 days, I've been searching the forums archive with various combinations of search words. I found a lot of info, and even an invite for Gmail!

Still, I can't select which account to send my emails "from" when typing an email on my Axim. As it is, my only choice is the default Outlook E-mail.

I got a yahoo.ca account and my brand spanking new gmail account. Both are now downloaded into my Outlook on my desktop, through POP3. (note: Yahoo.com wants you to pay to upgrade to another type of accoutn inorder to get POP3 access and/or forwarding. On yahoo.ca, it comes with the free account for some reason).

So when I sync I now have my ISP, my Yahoo, and my Gmail emails on my Axim. When I write an email, it goes through my Outlook on my desktop, hence it gets to its destination as "from my isp". How do I write an email "from Yahoo" or "from Gmail" on my Axim using the PPC Outlook? When writing from my desktop, I do have the option of selecting which "from" my email will be sent.

This post:

http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...ht=POP+account

has very detailled instructions on how to set up Gmail as another account on the Axim. But does that entail that I should remove the Gmail from the Outlook on my desktop? Also, does it mean that my Axim will sync to Gmail directly, thus bypassing my desktop Outlook? Can the same be done with Yahoo?

The goal here is to use my Yahoo and Gmail on the Axim. I don't care all that much of having them on my desktop Outlook (it just would be simpler... :)

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't use Yahoo or Gmail, but I am pretty sure I understand what you are saying. The problem seems to be you have set up the yahoo and gmail pop3 settings in your desktop outlook rather then on your axim. By setting them up on the Axim you will be able to send and recive email form your axim and not have to use your desktop outlook. The "account" on your Axim called Outlook EMail is for doing what you are currently doing. Writing/receiving/sending email through your desktop outlook.

To set up your Axim for email go messaging->accounts->New account and follow the directions using the same POP3 settings you used in outlook or outlook express on your desktop. If you don't know them you can look under "Tools->EMail accounts" in outlook and "Tools->Accounts" in outlook express. Because I don't use Yahoo or Gmail I can't give you the step by step. But below are some general instructions for setting up email on the Axim. Just replace the POP3 info with your own info for gmail. As you already know Yahoo requires a preimum service to get the POP3 settings so I you will not be able to use the axim with yahoo unless you go through internet explorer.

Good Luck and just ask if you get stuck somewhere.

Adam

PS - If you get this to work and don't want to use them with your desktop outlook anymore you can delete them from there and only use you Axim. FYI

Start>Messaging>Accounts>New Account

Page 1/4 ~ E-mail Address
This is easy, enter your email address
Next....

Page 2/4 ~ User information
The "your name" part is what ever you want. It has no bearing on the settings.

User name is the part of your email before the @ sign (ie USERNAME@<isp>.com)

Password is your email password

Check the box for Save Password
Next....

Page 3/4 ~ Account information
Account type is POP3

Account Name is what ever you want it to be. If you set up more then one this can be very helpfull. I just used my username, same as the last page.

next....

Page 4/4 ~ Server information

This is where it can be a little different for some people. 99% of the time it is MAIL.<ISP>.COM, From looking at the Comcast site it appears they use MAIL.COMCAST.NET for the incomming and SMTP.COMCAST.NET for the out going. You can try these. But this is one of the areas you might have to tinker with. For example changing both to MAIL.COMCAST.NET

The domain you can just leave blank.

Options.....

Options page 1/3

I would not check this box for checking for messages every X# of minutes. If you are not online you will get an error message every X# of minutes.

Next....

Options Page 2/3

Here I checked the box for "Outgoing mail requiers authentication" as well as "Use separate settings"

Outgoing Settings....

Outgoing server settings

For username here I had to use my entire email address. This was very different then the rest of the set up.

Enter your password

Leave the domain blank

Check the box for save password

Check the box for "Require SSL for outgoing mail

Click OK in the upper right corner

Next....

Options page 3/3

In order to save space I would select "Get message headers only"

Check the box marked include and select 2K

Finish....

Yeah, you basically re-create 2 new email accounts that sync when you go wirelessly with that account. My yahoo works, can't get my earthlink to work though, haven't figured out the right settings.

If you're using the Messaging program to compose your emails, just hit the double arrow in the header to see more options like Bcc, and at the bottom you will see an option to select which service to send the email with. I hope that's what you were asking about.

Alright! With the help of the posts above and a few others, I was able to set up my Gmail and my Yahoo both as POP3 on my Axim so that I can work offline. Great! I can now send email from my Axim with a "Yahoo" or "gmail" from.

Again on Yahoo: I use Yahoo.ca, not .com. The settings for the POP3 on the PDA are as straight forward as they come (check here:'http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/context/context-36.html'),

The exception that you need to know to select "Outgoing email need authentification". Other than that it is PERFECT! :) It does an actual SYNC, which is very convenient.

On the other hand, Gmail doesn't rate at perfect yet. It seems that I'm having the smae problem everybody is having with the deleting the content of the Inbox upon a sync. I created a non-synced folder to handle this problem temporarily. Of course, deleting an email in the Inbox doesn't delete on the Gmail servers... Well, it's still cool that it's Gmail!

Thanks to all, made me understand my tool that much more.
