Pocket Plus, Pocket Breeze, etc. to storage card or BIS?

I am getting extremely low on RAM! I don't know why because I have most of my programs either installed to BIS or my SD card. I have also used Tweaks2K2.net to move shared .dll files and PIE temp files to my SD card. I even uninstalled Avantgo. I also did the Odyssey Client tweak. I regularly use MemMaid to delete useless files as well.

After all that I have 12.0 MB free program memory and 12.6 MB free storage memory. Is this normal? I know more RAM is better, but how much is necessary? My GPS programs are hogs.

Has anyone successfully installed the following programs to BIS or storage cards without problems (these are all I have installed to Main Memory):

-Pocket Mechanic
-SPB Pocket Plus
-Pocket Breeze
-SE_VGA
-Tweaks2k2.NET
-WeatherPanel

I installed WeatherPanel to SD card but after I installed it the program informed me there was a new version available and asked if I wanted to install it automatically. I answered yes but I was not given an option of where to install it. Unfortunately it chose Main Memory . The new version is supposed to support an install to storage cards. :bang:

I have read the thread about moving .dll files with MemMaid and haven't tried that yet. I would first like to know if my today plug-ins can be reinstalled somewhere else, preferably BIS.

I have Pocket Breeze in BIS with no problems. The rest I do not use. I try to keep my Today screen as uncluttered as possible. My only other plugin is tdlaunch.

I just slide the slider up so I have more working memory than storage memory. Ok you need to do it every time you do a soft reset but the rest of the time you should have not problems.

Try setting about 20MB / 4MB configuration.

I also noticed that while you install your programs to an SD card or BIS a lot of things are still copied to your windows directory (RAM) so that could explain when your memory is going.

I think Pocket Plus might work from BIS... I have not tryed it myself but I think I read it on another post here at Aximsite.

Hope this helps.
Adrian

Sliding the slider works, but only temporarily. It's still important to install/store as little as possible in Main Memory. :)

And sometimes doing a soft reset helps when some of the programs you're using are badly coded and have huge memory leaks. They can still take some RAM even when closed.

For the sliders, I do the same as Adrian, I try to keep around 20Mb of RAM, and the rest on storage (which I don't use that much, but some programs don't let you the choice). With my current config, I have around 28-30 free memory, so that makes 8-10 for storage.

I try not to install anything in main memory and only use two of the programs you listed:

-SPB Pocket Plus - If I remeber correctly, it wouldn't allow me to install in BIS.

-Pocket Breeze - This is in BIS and I have no problems running it there.

I use Resco File Explorer to move my programs around. It works great!

Well, after trying a few things, here's the best I can come up with.

-SE_VGA, left it in main memory because it is very small anyways.

-SPB Pocket Plus, left in main memory. I hear that is the only place it will work.

-WeatherPanel, reinstalled to SD card (from scratch this time. I dl'd the latest trial version from their website, and it shows as registered because of the original install.) The only file in main memory is a single .dll.

-Tweaks2k2.NET, reinstalled to BIS.

-Pocket Breeze, reinstalled to BIS. However, most of the files automatically installed to main memory anyways, and it would not show up on the Today screen, even after a soft reset. I moved the PocketBreeze.dll to Windows and then it showed up on the Today screen. Unfortunately, I was only able to save 788.84KB by installing to my SD card. The main .dll is 505KB and the other files (many are duplicates of what is in the SD card folder) add up to 736.87KB. I am not sure if that really gave me back any RAM with all the duplicate files.

-Pocket Mechanic, reinstalled to SD card. This is another one of those programs that will automatically install to main memory, despite ordering it live on my SD card. :headshake No problem, I manually moved the entire folder to my SD card (into the empty folder it created there to trick me!) and sent a shortcut to the program menu. It works fine.

When I had finished, my total free RAM went up to ~27.6MB. Only slightly better than the 24.6MB I started with. I tried the memory slider before, and every time it would snap right back to where it was before. I tried it again, this time moving it to 20.5MB program memory and 7.1MB storage memory. Suprisingly, after a soft reset it stayed where I put it. I'm not confident it will stay put, but we'll see.

Next, I am going to try moving some more .dll's with MemMaid and see if I can get back some more RAM. I'll let you know what happens. This is all for tonight.

If you want to move Pocket Breeze you need to uninstall it but tell it to save your settings. Now reinstall to BIS. This will remove all duplicate files and folders. Also, the newest beta, which is stable, will allow you to remove the QVGA resource file making things even smaller.

That's what I did but it still installed the files to main memory. Oh well

You selected BIS when you installed? Not trying to demean you but I want to make sure you didn't have it set up to install to default automatically.

I've not had a problem doing this before so it would be good to figure out the problem.
