:realmad: I've donwloaded this wondeful voice recording program, however the options are not sticky. When you close the program(like really close the program) the options are set backt o defualt. It's a real pain to set the file location bit rate extra everytime I want to record. Does anyone4 else have this problem? How did they fix it? I have a dell axim x30 mid. Thanks
dont know if this might help, but u can do setting/input/options and set ur recording formats that u prefer. also what speed is your sd card that you record with because when i record i get distorted noises and im guessing its my sd card write speed. thanks in advance.
Thanks for the help tofu, but NoteM has it's own settings for bitrates(mp3 format), it also has numerous other settings. I currently have kingston 512mb SD card(regular speed). When I record to the SD card there is a noticable pause every few seconds. Again, thanks for the help!
If you get a Lexar card (and I'm not kidding), NoteM will work fine. And once it records in a particular format, it remembers those settings. Chances are that NoteM is crashing on you at the same time it is making those wonderful "click noises."
That's because the data won't flow fast enough on to the Kingston card. It sounds funny, but I had the same situation, and tried with 2 different Kingston cards (one a newer card).
I have 3 Lexar 1GB cards, and they work great for NoteM...even on X5 units!
There is a VERY serious difference between SD cards, and anyone that says differently is either uneducated in the matter or just has no experience with the issue.
You can check out the memory card results here...they were debated by some because of the program we used, but I still hold to the idea that regardless of what program you would use, the performance IN the Axim would be the same.

choirguy are u saying that any lexar card will do the trick, without any regards to write speed?
The Axim seems to know no difference between standard Lexar 1GB cards, 32x 1GB cards, and the Sam's Club 1GB card (although one person did return a Sam's and buy a yellow and blue label Lexar instead).
Problems recording with NoteM? It may well be your SD/CF Card!
I have to agree 100% with Choirguy that the memory card is almost certainly the cause of any recording problems when using NoteM.
I originally had 512MB Kingston (made in Taiwan) and 128MB Sandisk SD cards, and with them I was able to successfully record with NoteM only via the Low bitrate setting on my X5. If I used Medium or High bitrate settings, all I got was pops, clicks, and static.
Last week, I bought a new 512 MB Viking SD card (made in Japan, BTW), and NoteM performs BEAUTIFULLY now at even the High bitrate setting. Guess that's the SD card I'll have to use from now on if I want to make higher quality recordings with NoteM. Go figure! :rolling:

Yes, I have the same problem. I remapped the buttons and they reset each time as well.
It seems people got hung up on the SD card issue referring to skips, rather than the settings being reset. I'd love to hear if there's a way to make the settings stick. BTW, did you install to BIS or Main Memory? Mine's in BIS. Just wondering if that makes a difference.
I fully agree with the Kingston SD cards being VERY SLOW when you write to them.
I own a Lexar 256mb, a Kingston 128mb, a Kingston 512mb, and a Toshiba 16mb.
The Kingston cards are actually manufactured by Toshiba.
It takes 10 times longer to write data to my Kingston 512mb than it does to write the same data to my Lexar 256mb. A file which took less than 10 minutes to write to my Lexar, took nearly an hour to write to my Kingston.
But the Kingston read speeds are comparible to the Lexar. Just the Kingston write speeds are horrible !!!!

I DO NOT RECOMMEND KINGSTONS !!!
Please note that if you optimize the Kingston cards (which, if not optimized, are indeed horrible to be used with the, in this respect, very sensitive NoteM), they in fact become pretty usable. Please read this article on optimizing storage cards, with a lot of references to NoteM.

Excellent article. But don't think it will help here.
Kingstons have extremely slow write speeds even when the cards are totally empty. It's just a badly designed product.
I had absolutely no idea how slow Kingstons were until I had a Lexar to compare them to. The Lexar write speed is 10 times faster than the Kingstons.
I have the same slow write speeds when I use the Kingston card in my digital camera. When I use my camera in "movie mode", it takes a full minute to save a 7mb .AVI file to my Kingston card. It takes only 10 seconds or less to save a similar 7mb .AVI file to my Lexar card.
But I do know that by copying my data from my SD card to my Desktop hard drive, then reformatting my SD card, and copying the data back to my SD card, I gained back around 25% of my SD card's wasted space. I previously had 84mb remaining on my 256mb card. After reformatting the card using Windows XP, I had 109mb remaining.
choirguy, you are my hero for today. I've been wanting to use noteM but was unable to. I have a 1G kingston card that keep noteM from working. I tried writing to the main memory and it works fine. I usually keep enough open memory to write to my main memory. I can do that and then move the file to the SD card. that will work until I can get a 1G Lexar card at a good price.

Optimizing your Kingston will definitely help. See my article above.
