Question Disappointed with Excel

I was really disappointed with Excel. As a simple spreadsheet application, it's fine. However, many documents I need to view daily have charts and drawing objects in them. They won't convert when sent to Pocket Excel.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a program (that doesn't cost more than my Axim) or add in to Excel that will allow me to view documents that have charts and dwg obj in them?

I don't need to create, only to view.

Thanks, Bob J.

I haven't tried this but it ought to work. Go to Adobe and get the free PDF printer. You print to the PDF printer and it creates a simple PDF document. Then get their free PDF file viewer for the PPC. You can print your spreadsheet to the PDF printer, synch the PDF to your PPC, and view that. 'Hope it helps.

Here is a program that I believe is free, it looks like it has a bit more in the area of drawings, and managing things other than the basic spreadsheet functionality of things, but not as much as you need. You still might want to give it a try though.

Really, the guys who are the best at making pocket applicaitons with lots of features are the people at softmaker, they have already made a very nice Word Alternative, Text Maker, which actually has all the features of its desktop counterpart except printing. They are currently working on one called PlanMaker, it isn't out yet, but you may be interested in it down the line, the amount of features in these programs is great, really, everything I've ever needed to used in any of them, is there. I expect their Plan Maker application to be like Text Maker in this way: small footprint, very optimized and efficient, packed with features.

Check out Clearview to see if it helps you. The price seems pretty reasonable.

Never tried it but Repligo is supposed to be quite good.

I think this might be more along the lines of what you are looking for:

PDAGraphiX @ PocketGear

Unrelated to the non-existant P_Excel graphics, there are a couple useful parts of Excel missing, and I'd like to know if anyone knows of any add-ins.

P_Excel doesn't seem to handle page links. That's disappointing as I found that most Excel apps for PalmOS (ie. TinySheet or Docs-to-Go) can do this...yet P_Excel can't.

Also, there doesn't seem to be any support for Control Toolbox items like Combo-boxes (drop-down list selection).

I can't find these in P_Excel. Are they in there in some way I missed? Are there any add-ins for this?

Repligo is the best. I just downloaded it and put some PDFs onto my ax and it's wonderful. I suggest that.

You should take a hard look at the referenced SpreadCE application. It was noted in one of the responses above. I believe it supports these functions and is arguably the most powerful spreadsheet for Pocket PC (shareware) to date (Planmaker is in Beta)

Here's the link again:

SpreadCE will do everything that Excel 2000 for your Desktop will do - it has all the formulas and functions (plus a few more) and will do graphs of all types. It will import and read all *.xls files.

It is not free - it costs $20.00. An absolute gift for such a powerful program IMO.
