Hello everyone.
This is my first review, so please take that into consideration when you post a reply, also I would like to remind you that this one persons opinion, (mine). It is possible for you to have a different opinion once you try the software so please don’t blast me if you don’t agree with my opinion. After all this is America and we are all allowed to have our own opinions.
Some history about me. I am 38yrs old, I served in the UASF for 10 years on active duty, got out for 9 years and now work for the UASF again as a civil servant. I have used a Handspring visor for two years and loved it. The only thing lacking with it was the ability for me to load some real big PDF files on it and be able to read them (work related information). I also love computers, I have built several PC’s including the one I am using which is an AMD 1800 with 40GB HD, 256MB DDRSD RAM, CD, CD-RW& ZIP100.
OK, on to the review…
I received my Axim on the 9th of December after what seemed like an eternity of waiting since I ordered it on the 20th of Nov. It was a great work of art right out of the box and I could not wait to get into the workings of it. Coming from Palm OS it was also a real shock and I found it quite difficult to adjust to the PPC platform. Two and a half weeks later I think its great! One thing I noticed right off was the standard explorer program is lacking a lot in the performance area. It is a real bad imitation of explorer, as I know it. I have found a web sight that has lots of FREE applications, and since I spent a lot of money on the Axim and the 1 GB micro drive I figured I would look there for a lot of what I was looking for. Its called freewareppc.com you will find some good applications there. This one is called PocketExplorer, It functions just like the windows explorer I have come to love. You can use PocketExplorer to display and manage files and folders on your device. You can copy, paste, cut, delete, rename files and folders beam files, display properties and drag and drop files and folders just like the windows version. It only requires approximately 100KB of free storage on your Pocket PC. I installed it on my SD card and run it from there with no problems at all.
On a scale of one to ten I would give this program a solid 8 because it works as advertised and the price is right!
