Deleting old Outlook messages

Help! I have upgraded to a Dell X50V from from a Dell Axim X5. I plan to give the old one to my mother, but want to clean it up first. I don't want to do a hard reset, as there are a few programs on it that I can't reinstall. The problem is that I can't delete some of the emails from the old outlook in box. I can't open them, I can't move them, I can only see the titles, and some of them show up as unread.
Has anyone had this problem? Got any suggestions?

One thing you SHOULDNT do... go to active sync > Explore > Databases > delete outlook databases. I tried to clean out my X5 for my dad and decided that the remaining email stuff was there and after that the outlook program couldnt start.. had to hard reset lol.
