Mail app that doesn't sync and can live on a storage card?

i'd like a mail app that will log on and download new messages without looking through every single one of my emails on the server, new and old. Specifically, i have a Yahoo account w/ 700+ emails and the mail app would log on and download them all. I had hoped it would do this only once and then download news ones going forward but after downloading 700 emails to the Axim and then deleting them and then logging on again to download new messages, it would download them all again. it was essentially syncing to my yahoo mailbox instead of simply downloading new messages.

i feel like i'm not explaining this well.

anyone have any thoughts?

thanks in advance,
mark

>_< 700 messages is a LOT.
I know you can get the pocket outlook to do lots. It will go and send and recieve, update deleted, and get your new mail but I dont think it woudl be able to handle all those messages.. It might do the ones within the last week.

I dont recall a Yahoo mail plugin for the pocket outlook. There is two for Hotmail, but I dont recall seeing any for Yahoo mail unless you have Pop3 access.

Oh and storage card. I think the pocket outlook does give you the option to store attachments on the card. Never tried that though as my SD is always full. :rolling:

i tried it but i remember having problems actually deleting things like they were never really deleted.

yeah, 700 is a lot and there's another 3000 on my Outlook on my PC. it's a little excessive but what can i say? i'm a saver. i do refer to them more than you'd think.

npopw can live anywhere, does not require any installation (other than copy the npop.exe to the appropriate place), handles downloading just the message headers (configurable), multiple email accounts, attachments (receiving and sending).

The website where is use to be maintained has gone off-line, however I can a copy of the latest version (I think) V1.0.1.4 Beta 2, which is here.

I've use it for the past 3 years, via ActiveSync, Wifi, and Mobile phone dialups without a problem.

And it is free.

If you map the "Messaging" button (button #3) to npop.exe and configure npop to "Check e-mail on start", it will poll for email each time you press the messaging button.

Negatives: does not support IMAP or SSL (i.e. gmail)

I've got a copy of the source code if someone fancies enhancing it - it is here

Webis 2.1 is what I use. Just checked yahoo and it should work. I don't use yahoo but gmail. I downloaded 50 messages in my inbox then erased the ones I did not want. And only new ones downloaded after that.

If you tried an older version you should give this one a go. There is a 1/2 off deal in the forums. The problem I had was downloading everything again after I had deleted some mail I wanted to keep. WebIS does what you want with gmail at least.

P.S. Just signed up for yahoo and will give it a try. :approve:

Update

Signed up for yahoo mail and got it to work exactly as you described with WebIs Mail 2.11. I had some problems earlier when with this program with corrupt folders but have been good since I changed from "store messages in local folders" to selecting the default folder on my sd card card where the program is stored. I was able to download, delete, then download without getting the deleted messages again. One thing webis checks all databases when opening so with 700 messages this may take a while. Nice options in Webis for downloading only headers, whole messages or upto a certain size. Also if don't want to download all 700 to start with you can select how many days to download and do a bit at a time.

BTW- Don't think I'll use yahoo mail as gmail blows it away in most aspects. PM me if you want a invite to try it out.

thanks all for the help. i'll try your suggestions.

i have personal mail through yahoo (i.e. me@mydomainname.com) which i like and if i could use gmail to check that, i would. i have a gmail account and it's far superior, i think, but it can't check other pop mail yet. when it does, i'll use it exclusively.

thanks again,
mark

Yahoo supports forwarding so you could try that to send to gmail. If it weren't for the beta tag I would use my gmail exclusively. For now I forward a copy to gmail from my ISP email server to check when mobile.
