Revert to Avantgo 3

I want to revert to Avantgo 3 so I can use the VGA hacks on PIE however when I try to install it the PPC says there is a previous version of Avantgo Client installed and I must uninstall it first. I've tried uninstalling ver 5 already and removing any mention of Avantgo from registry and windows dir on the X50 but still no joy.

Any help

I have a X50V and the new AvantGo absolutely blew.

For those that don't feel like hard resetting their device to get the old AvantGo back, you can do the following:

Warning: This involves editing the Registry, make sure to backup your PDA before doing this, you could screw up your PDA.

I'm not sure if ALL these steps are necessary, but it's what I did and it worked.

1.) Uninstall the new AvantGo from your PDA.
2.) Soft reset your PDA.
4.) Uninstall AvantGo from your PC desktop from the Add/Remove control panel applet.
5.) Reinstall the latest version of Microsoft ActiveSync (3.8).
6.) Reboot your computer.
7.) On your PDA use a registry editor (I used Resco's RegEdit) find and delete any keys (folder looking things) with the word "AvantGo" (not case sensitive) in them. DO NOT delete any registry keys that refer to recent file searches done in the Resco regedit app that happen to have the word "AvantGo" in them.
8.) Soft reset your PDA.
9.) Go to AvantGo website, go to the help section, then go to the download section. Download "AvantGo 3.3 - Pocket Internet Explorer integrated version" and install that to your PDA's main memory.
10.) Re-add AvantGo to the Sync list in ActiveSync desktop application (Tools-Options-Sync Options).
11.) Re-sync your PDA and you should be golden!

Updating to the A03 ROM did it for me. I didn't restore a backup though.

Switched to Mobile Favorites

The new Avantgo Version essetially messed up my Avanto. I had been using Avnatgo ever since it came out. When I 'Upgraded' to the new version, it messed everything up. I had to uninstall Avantgo.

Now I have discovered 'Mobile Favorites'. I carry a fairly sizeable 'Cache' of my content websites and I am close to reproducing my Avanto experience. Whats more, I can now add any website I want to my 'Cache'.

The new versions blows! I attempted to uninstall the new AvantGo but was unsucessful. Fortunately I just got my X50v yesterday so the hard reset was the easiet solution. This is just another example of how the "newest and greatest" isn't always your best bet.

Thanks for the heads up TalynOne.

I have the older version of Avantgo running now and man! it is so much clearer and the font is super crisp. Only problems are some of the channels i had aren't formatted for the old version like wired.com. Oh well small price to pay for clearer reading.

All you need to do is delete the folders called advantgo and reset. Then install the older version.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/Avantgo
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Avantgo
