my ppc crashed badly , wouldn't restart after a soft reset....
i was nearly happy to try out sprite ...and with a bright smile i launched the latest restore...
and it never ended... when it won't achieve it and get stuck on the registry restore.
i managed to restore an older backup that was on my sd card , but none of the daily backup i did on the computer worked .. they always run endlessly at the registry part ...
i guess i'll give a try to sunnysoft backup manager, or use resco to back up the registry separately.
i'm very worried about that if i can't rely on a backup.
I use sprite a lot and have rarely had any problem with it. it is possible to get a corrupt backu though no matter who's product you use. That's why it is really important to have a couple of backups available. I usually keep at least the last 2 or 3 backups in case one of them is bad.
i'm a techy guy , i like to find by myself before asking to the support , i've searched the web and found there was a glitch with registry and email restore but it was on a old old version, ad i use the latest.
i can't restore registry on any of the pc backup.
i can restore everything but the registry , which is pretty back since it makes them useless...
i'm going to try a bit more (3 hours already .. gosh) and post up what i found .
ok i did it , restaured from an old back up , then killed all the today plugins , killed all the process from memmaid, launched the restore and it worked .
i guess the builtin "close all apps runing" wasn't enough
ok after much work around so it won't happen again , i found out why my backup didn't work , they are due to the latest version of wisbar advance that wouldn't be closed fine by sprite backup, and the backup would be kinda corrupted.
it doesn't really matter on manual backup since i would close it before , but it's a pain with the auto backup.
i guess i'll try another task manager , so bad i liked the themes of wisbar advance a lot .... well safety first ! a good backup is the most important!

Thanks for reporting back. I'm sure your experiences will help a lot of people since Wisbar Advanced is so popular. :approve:

Are you using the latest released version of Wisbar, or the latest beta? There were issues with some versions, but that's been fixed with the newer betas, try installing the 2.0.1.28 beta available in their forums, it's been very stable and no problems with Sprite closing it before a backup, and I use the auto backup to a self-extracting file, runs every morning at 6:45am, the does a soft-reset, all unattended and works flawlessly:)
i did use the 2.0.1.28 beta and had this problem , i switched back to 2.1.10 (latest "official" release) tested a bit and there is no problem with sprite closing it. weird that you have no issue with the beta when it's the beta version that brings problem here.

Yes, very strange, the latest versions have fixed that issue for everyone else.
What version of Sprite are you using? Did you add WA to the list of exclusions in Sprite? In the directory where you installed Sprite Backup, look for a file named UserPrecessesToExclude.txt, open it and see if there are any programs listed, any programs in that file would be not be stopped by Sprite. At one time, that was the only way to get Sprite to complete a backup if WA2 was installed.
well i checked the file "UserPrecessesToExclude.txt" as you mentionned and there are no program listed in it .
my sprite backup version is 3.1.4 build 2419
maybe i just have messed up too many things .. it's my first pocket pc , i had a palm , and i just loaded tons of softwares to test and find out what i would need, i think it could be one of the reasons. well i'll stick to the WA 2.1.10 .

That's correct you need to edit the file yourself and add the WisBarAdv2.exe.
Another way that has worked for me is to go into the settings for WA2 and then click on the Skinned Applications page.
This is where you tell WA2 which applications NOT to skin.
Add Sprite Backup to the list and that should also solve your problem.
all is working fine , i installed magicbutton, even adding wb2 to the exclusion list it still would report errors at the end of the backup, so I uninstalled it .
