I just got voice commad 4.0 about 2 weeks ago, and I love it!
At first I was dissappointed cause it didn't do EVERYthing I wanted it to do, but what it does is exactly what I need it to do.
I use it while driving. Listing to my music without looking at the PDA to change songs or tracks or albums. I have my Axim hooked up old school style with a CD/Tape adaptor into my cassette deck. Don't laugh it works better than my staticy FM transmitter!!!! :approve: )It tells me when my battery is low, without prompting, and I haven't even used it for appointments yet. If you copy your favorites into the start menu folder in the windows directory you can call out your Favorites.( except google for some odd reason. Insert Bill Gates/Microsoft conspiracy theory here.) :exc:
This product works. Well worth the 40$ I shelled out. (I just think about what my insurance rates would be after I crash while changing songs on my Axim. )
I tried it when it first came out. I hated it. I had a Toshiba e800 then, and it totally slowed down my PPC. I'm not sure what revisions has been made in ver 4.0 but all Voice Command could do back then was open Tasks, Mail, Today, Close, Minimize...etc...Didn't really find much use for the handsfree features. Seemed like an idiot when trying to use it in public. Maybe things have changed.
The ability to change songs is kinda cool but does it work with other music players like betaplayer?
yeah if your talking about microsoft's voice command it's only up to 1.5, but i've got it and i'd say it's only ok (i didn't pay for it though, so if i did i'd say it's not worth it), no matter what you have to press a button to start voice command and if you can push a button to say "next track" then you can just push the "next track" button on your pda anyways... i say they need to come up with a way that it's activated with a voice command somehow or (this is probably not practical) get a remote to activate it that you can place right next to you

I have to disagree. I have programmed the record button to use as my voice command button. Pressing that button requires no looking or thought from me. I press the while I am driving, and my Axim x50v is in the passenger seat. This is a dream come true for me. Using the x50v in my car as a portable mp3 player! I say play [album} and it just queues up. Or play [Artist]. how many buttons do you have to push to have a particular artist played, all of there songs. Think about doing that while driving! :exc:

i just use pPod and can play a album (or artist, etc) that way with the press of a button so that's y i say it's kinda pointless for me, plus i have my pda in a mount on my windshild so it's not out of the way for me, either way if it works for ya then it's all good, i just wish you could program every function with voice command, now that would be great and if it would take notes via voice for you, i also gotta say it's nice having it read out your schedule and appointments though, that's just slick
