I just bought an x50v, and the biggest adjustment problem I'm having is finding a simple memo application. The one that comes with the OS "Notes", saves each separate memo into the filesystem. I have several hundred short memos on my Palm OS device, so that just wouldn't work well.

Any former Palm OS owners know of a good replacement?

I've used the notes application and Phat pad and both use separate files for each note. I've found no real issues as the individual files from the built in notes ends up as individual notes in Outlook. I would suggest setting a specific folder for them in order to keep them in one location rather than letting them get placed wherever.
