Resco Pocket Viewer w/ Dell CD

Hey everyone, I got my dell axim x50 not too long ago. On the cd dell sent me there was a full installation of Resco Pocket Viewer. I like it. I think it's nifty. The cd said it was a full version and not a trial version. I was checking the "about" section when i noticed that it says unregistered version. When i click to register it says "full version". I don't know whether I have to buy it or register it(if so how). Should I wait 31 Days to see if it expires or not? This is not a luxury I have since I'll be leaving for overseas next month. :/ If anyone bout an axim recently and can tell me if this is a full version or not I would appreciate it.

Thanks

It is a full version. You do not need to register it and it will not expire. However, it is not the latest version. If you ever want to upgrade to the latest version, you will have to purchase that.

There is a file on the Resco website that says it's a Picture Viewer Axim upgrade.
I've never installed it because I already use the purchased version but maybe it is the latest version.
Someone someone should try it.

Nice find gjw! I did it too and it seems to work nice. Updated it to the latest version. Now just hope that doesn't start the count down on the days to register. Thanks!

Just to be clear incase anyone comes arcross this thread down the road.

The Dell CD comes with Resco Photo Viewer (mine was v 5.0). If you install it the "about" page will always say that it is an UNregistered version and that you have 31 days left in the trial. Thing is, it will always say that. The 31 days will never change to say 30, 29, 28, ect. It just stays at 31, so you can use the software forever and not pay anything. That is why Dell says they give you a free full version of the software.

Now, thanks to GJW, you can download an update to the latest version. (5.32 at this time) and it will work the same way. The about screen will still say you have 31 days to register. But again, that number does not change and you don't ever have to register.

So, Install the version on the Dell CD. Then install the update form the link above or go to the www.resco-net.com and download it form there.

It is nice software and Dell gave it to us for free on the Dell CD. Up until gjw pointed it out I was happy with a free v5.0. Now I have the latest version and am even happier!

Good Luck~

I ended up uninstalling the whole program, and then re-installing without the upgrade, because the newer version would not let me view .jpg's.

Make sure you delete the older Picture Viewer folder before you install the update (Don't need the old v5.00 installed).

Problem SOLVED! Thanks Justlam, I had figured the file was just an "update" but is actually the entire program. I uninstalled the resco viewer, and just installed the update program, and all file extensions are available.

I too did not uninstall anything before the upgrade. The upgrade install program does an uninstall of old version first... after letting you know it shows the program already on your unit. :)

It did not uninstall the old version on my X50v, it simply installed into the same folder.

The executable for the upgrade has a different file name (RPicView.exe) than the version on the Dell CD (RPicViewDell.exe). After installing the upgrade I found both files in the Resco Picture Viewer folder. The shortcut I had in my launcher (I use cLaunch) was pointing to the old version. I simply changed it to the new version and everything works.

Unlike version 5 if you tapped on register it says full version, this wants ver 5.32 want me to register and doesnt say full version. I can't find this upgrade patch on Resco's web site. Where did you get link from???????????????

Ver 5.0 wont play MPEG files on my x50 v, but will on my dad's X50 Standard. Dell shipped ver 5 with x50 v .

Do i need to pay for this ver 5.32 to play mpeg files with x50 v
