Has anyone else experienced this?

I did a system restore (somewhat of a practice so I knew how it worked before a more critical problem occured) and was a little suprised by what eventually happened.

Using MS pocket money, I have been happy, but after the system restore I sync'd up the Dell to the desktop - no problem there. What was the problem was my MS money on the desktop.... all the transactions that were entered between the time I made my backup file and the restore were gone from the desktop version of the program. Now, I know they should have dissapeared on the Axim itself (obviously this is the point of a restore) but I assumed that once the two sync'd the desktop would recognize a system restore had occured and update the Axim to be current, looks to me like the the sync allowed the Axim to tell the desktop those transactions were deleted. As I said, all the transactions lost after the Axim restore were also lost from the desktop after the sync.

I know I can set up the sync to only make changes to the Axim, so I assume next time (hopefully a long time from now) I have to do a system restore, I should change the settings in active sync to only change the Axim?

This post is either a call to help troubleshoot what happened, or a warning to others to watch there data after a system restore. I am not sure which jsut yet.

Thanks to you all for a great resouce on this site.

I will almost gurantee you that the problem was that your Axim over wrote your PC. Next time, i would back up my PC version of Money and then plug in the Axim, just in case.

Yes TZ, definately should have done a desktop backup of Money, I agree there. I also agree that the Axim overwrote the desktop, the Axim must have tagged those transactions on the destop that were not on the Axim as 'deleted', I find this a suprising defalt for active sync, especially the first sync after a system restore, a time when more than likely info has been lost from the Axim, and not 'deleted'. Fortunately I found this problem before I had a lot of transactions to loose. (secondary epiphany here - 'backup often')

My real question still stands: After a system restore, will other apps delete things off the destop, such as contacts that were lost in the system restore, or tasks that were lost? I did not notice Outlook loosing any info... but that may have been because there were not Outlook objects (such as tasks, or emails and so on) that were lost in the origional system restore.

Do we need to set up active sync to 'restore' our Axim to be current (as in change the settings to overwrite info on the Axim, rather than 'sync') after we do a system restore?

There is an option somewhere in ActiveSync about whether to go with what is on your PC (ex: newer information on your PC changes what is on your PPC) or to go with what is on your PPC (ex: different information on your PPC changes what is on your PC).
