I agree PhatPad is pretty Phantastic. [Sorry, couldn't resist.]
But it comes nowhere near OneNote in its features. And it would be awesome to be able to have all of one's OneNote files synched with a Pocket PC. It has to be one of the best research tools out there [as a PhD student finishing his thesis and part-time consultant, I will attest to that].
As for EverNote, it is also a useful tool and I hope they do come out with their proposed Pocket PC version. But I find its means of organization too cumbersome for my style. But that might be partly due to personal preference.
I've already written the OneNote people to suggest a Pocket PC version is needed and I suggest others who might be interested do the same.
In the meantime, PhatPad will probably have to do. There are other notes programs as well, however. ADBIdea has some neat features, but for reasons I can barely remember I stopped using it. A search on the internet should bring-up a host of programs. But for straight notes (and doodles), PhatPad will usually be your best bet.
Also, remember that OneNote will automatically bring in the Notes you make with the Pocket PC native Notes program, if you have it all set-up to synchronize Notes with Outlook. [The automated path is Notes (on Pocket PC) to Outlook to OneNote, as I understand it.]
Good Luck! :)
