hitchiker

I tried to use Hitchiker on my PPC one time from www.freewareppc.com It worked fine and picked up the internet on the road and in buildings but then when I came home it wouldn't pick up my normal Wi-Fi Linksys hookup but instead it was searching for other hookups. Anyone know how to use this program effectivley?

Same thing happened to me - after using it my WiFi settings had changed when I got back home. Stopped using it for the moment, using WiFiFoFum instead but it doesn't really do the same job. Maybe the next version will fix this...? After all, it is only at 0.2

Yep, it's a known problem and it's one that they said was fixed but obviously not.

yeah there should be a way to just turn it off so it doesn't pick up any other networks.

Hitchiker

I had a similar problem when I first used Hitchiker at home with my own personal wireless network. Here's what I did:

1. Run Hitchiker on your PPC
2. Tap/Highlight your network when it shows up in the window and Set Importance to 'High'
3. Tap/Highlight your network a second time and Set WPA Pre-Shared Key (if you are indeed using encryption)

I went an extra step to tell Hitchiker to 'Ignore' my neighbor's network and Set Importance to 'Low'. Depending on where I am within the house, my network signal may be weak, so this extra step sometimes help.

Hope this helps.

I can't get it to run on my x50v (ROM A05)? When I start the program (ver. 0.32), I get a pop-up stating that it requires .NET…1.0 SP3 or later. I couldn’t find that but I did download and install .NET 2.0, which according to Microsoft is backwards compatible. Starting Hitchiker still gives me the pop-up error message. If I click yes to continue, Hitchiker crashes with an “unexpected error”. Clicking the details button briefly shows the details once and then never again until the next time I cycle thru a Hitchiker start and crash. I sent an email to the developer a couple of days ago but haven't heard back.

Thanks akheron. Downloaded and installed SP3. Hitchiker now runs but I cannot connect to either of my access points. WiFi Companion connects to both. Guess Microsoft's claim of backwards compatabilty between 2.0 and earlier versions is wrong.
