Purchasing Netfront

Hey all,

I need to purchase about 35 copies of Netfront for my company and really cant find a place where I can do this. The only place I can see that stocks it is Pocketgear.com, Handago only stocks the Series 60 version. and the Netfront website itself it no use as I did find an email address on there for corporate purchases but that was no use.

I just need a Java enabled browser for a load of Dell Axim x50, x50v and a few Tosh e800, and I know Netfront works the way I need it to.

If anyone could shed any light on this, that would be great.

Cheers...Derrick

Methinks that NetFront is not the only option. You could try Jeode. This is Java Virtual Machine, wich would allow PIE to work with Java.

Anyway I remember I saw NetFront somewhere on Handango, though the search-machine didn't find it.

First, we need to know exactly what applets (if it's Java and not JavaScript) he plans to run because JVM's are radically different in their compatibility.

In general, there're four solutions to the problem

1, Thunderhawk 2.1+. Great Java support for business Java sites (e.g., banks), very bad Java support for toy applets like games. Read my comments at http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/foru...c.php?p=352806 on this.

2, NetFront 3.2: very good support for 'toy' applets as of 3.2; slightly worse support for JavaScript than in Thunderhawk 2.1+. Please read my comments at http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/foru...ic.php?t=41265 on this.

3, Jeode + PIE: no longer supported.

4, CrEme + PIE: good support for 'toy' applets but it's pretty expensive.

You may also want to read my tutorial on JVM's in general at http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/foru...ic.php?t=41081

Hot Pocket PC Java news:

1. The new, 0.1.5 version of the free and very promising Mysaifu JVM has been released today (please also see my post here at Sun Sep 18, 2005 6:33 am for more information). To a certain degree, it's already capable of running Toonel, but, according to the author (didn't have the time to test it myself), is still unstable. It has an experimental function, "floating frame and dialog". If you set following system property, then you can move and resize windows.

gnu.java.awt.peer.wce.floating=frame,dialog

I haven't tested this either as yet – sounds promising though, as, up to now, one of the biggest annoyances with it was that it didn't allow for resizable, relocatable top-level client windows, unlike other JVM's.

2. I've played with public Jeode versions released after 2001 (that is, over version 1.7.3) and have written a tutorial on its relocation fix. You'll definitely need it if you want to run it from a storage card. The tutorial has been posted to the following PPC sites: PPCT, iPAQ HQ, AximSite, PPC Magazine, FirstLoox, BrightHand.
