1, 3 - Snoopsoft Dashboard is skinable Today replacement, including a launcher. There are many other similar programs, I'm sure lots of people will post their favorites.

2 - Resco File Explorer is definately the way to go.

4 - Gigabar is the best that ever was, and it's free. This skinable app resides in the title bar (the bar across the top of your screen). If you're willing to spend a little time figuring out how this program works, it will reward you with incredible functionality. Tasks are displayed from the left. You can switch to them or close them. Gigabar icons are displayed from the right. They report date/time, memory use, battery use -- you can add additional icons. Each icon can be assigned to up to 10 functions. All PPC functions are available through Gigabar. The icons are completely customizeable. You can make it as simple or as complex as you wish. Several templates are included.

The really cool thing about PPC software is that most major apps make full function, limited time demos available. So you can try lots and lots of options before you decide. Enjoy!

For number 4 you can use icbar and if you hold down the X it will minimize it to the taskbar and a quick tap on the X will close it.

Launcher puts the icons like a PC on the today screen. I took all other things off.
I wish Task would show in order and I wish calender put writing in the boxes. but since they dont i have to launck the programs any way. thus launcher!

For #3 there is a freeware launcher app at

I haven't tried the launcher (I use the program bar out of Omega one's battery pack), but the task switcher works great.
