really depends on what program you use and the type of book you like to read. For starter, try memoware.com - they have a wide selection of books under different caterories for a variety of ebook readers.

For Purchase....
If you are interested in purchasing ebooks you can use Amazon, or any of the other bookstores for that matter. Most offer multiple options for downloading. (Adobe reader, Microsoft, etc.)
Here's the link to start:

Check out Project Gutenberg. Tons of public domain works, including fiction and reference. I picked up a bunch of Mark Twain stuff there. Format is mostly (all?) .txt

If you are interested in purchasing current, commercial titles, try fictionwise.com. Since switching to ebooks some time ago, I buy nearly all of them from there. They've got reasonable prices and good discounts if you join.

Sci-Fi Ebooks
Check out the Baen Free Library at www.baen.com. This is a good place to check out a couple of an author's books. The listing is not extensive, but it is getting better. Reading the Prime Palaver "rants" will explain the site and its existence.

Fictionwise has a very extensive sci-fi collection, and it is growing constantly.

E-book Catalog
A good place to search for e-books is the Microsoft Reader E-book Catalog. Just type in the title and it gives you links to the sites where you can buy or download the book. The link is http://www.mslit.com/ . I hope it works

If you like classics then you might want to check out:
www.dotlit.com
they don't have a ton of books but the books they do have are free (can't beat free).
