Does anyone know if this is for using with the remote software only or can it be configured somehow to replace the built-in IR port? Would be nice to be able to send files over the extended range as well as sync. Am I dreaming? :)

PDAwin's TV Remote Controller is the only software written to support it. I guess if somebody REALLY wanted to, they might could write a driver or app that would allow it to function in other programs. You'd probably have to get together with PDAwin and EDV to determine how it currently works with IR commands from the remote software before you could begin writing this.
Now I am sitting here and thinking if I really need this. I have a JBL (Microsoft) T1000 "Take Control" Remote which I kinda like since it has great learning capabilites and hooks up to my laptop for easy updates/configuration/backup. The screen is nothing comapring to Axim of course.... decisions...decisions...

Well.. it is actually more like $45... since the IR card is $30 with shipping and then the soft is $15. Still not bad, but I'll pass since I already have one universal remote which is pretty good.

I guess you're right. I didn't have a universal, so I just went for it.

Still much better than $700+ for the equivalent color pronto. :)
I know PDAwin still isn't quite as flawless as the pronto, but it's coming along pretty fast. The only thing that they need to fix is the "button press" issue. Pronto (and other touchscreen remotes) usually send the IR command on button press....this way you can create a repeat so you can just hold it down for things like volume, light dimming, etc. PDAwin, however, sends the IR command on button release.....so for the moment the only way to do a repeat is with the hardware buttons. PDAwin says that they are working on this for one of their upcoming releases.
I am becoming increasingly intrigued and am on the verge of buying.
Does anyone know online where I can see a pic of the card installed in the Axim; I am concerned as to how it looks installed and how much it sticks out before I take the plunge and buy it.
Wow you guys have sure done a lot of work on this! I'm so excited that you have gotten so into this. Quick question though, I have just downloaded the demo and I'm seriously contemplating on purchasing the extender and the software, but in the demo I only see certain kinds of brands.
What about brands like Kenwood? Can this software be programmed to handle that?
Thanks guys! Your help will certainly help me decide whether to pursue this or not.
Cheers!!
