beginning to hate Spb Finance - any suggestions for an alternate software?
i already upgraded to Spb Finance 2.0 hoping that things would be better...
unfortunately, not...
there must be something wrong with the Synchronization because some items never get synced - and it thus happens that either my balance goes down a bit, or goes up (say from 7,000 yen to 40,000 yen - where did i get the extra 33,000 yen?)...
and this happens around every week, every two weeks - that i spend TOO MUCH time just fixing what is wrong
---
are there more reliable cash softwares out there?

I also see duplicate entries on the PDA, which cause the balance to go up (I wish my savings was that high), in fact, it just happened in the last hour! The only way I've found to fix it is to reinstall the application and re-sync.
If you use Quicken, there is Pocket Quicken from Landware: http://www.landware.com/pocketquicken/ppc/index.html It's much more expensive, and not as "pretty", but it does the job and has been rock solid, even investment accounts show the correct balance, although you can't see investment transactions on the PDA. It also has the ability to trim transactions from the PDA that meet certain date criteria, trying this with Spb Finance would blow it up :rolling:
Only other thing with PQ is that the Today screen plug-in is not VGA capable, so it looks strange if you have an X50v.
yes... i tried doing this with SpbFinance 2.0 - oh my God!!! it was a nightmare...
how come they release new versions without actually doing some intenstive STRESS testing???
I'm not sure, I did some beta testing on the new version and reported the problems with investment accounts, transactions were not handled correctly if they were a buy, but during the short period I did the testing, I didn't have the duplicate entry problem, so I thought it was fixed from v 1.x.

well, the reason i got a third-party utility is the added functionality not found with the free version of MS Money PPC...
i guess with more functionality - we end up with more bugs and/or instabilities...
PS: anyway, at this time, i was able to fix my Money file by using a backup of SpbFinance from the previous day, and deactivating the sync for the other apps - just leaving SpbFinance to sync
Try Cash Organizer, it works great for me and has more functionality then SPB's. The only time you can get duplicate entries is if you sync after restoring after a hard reset. If you have a hard reset your best bet is to restore from backup, manually add the transactions which haven't previously been synced with your computer, then delete the money file on your PPC and then sync.

actually, i was searching for alternates right now - and seems that CO is quite a find...
would try the demo really soon...
--- edit ---
just one question, though - would Cash Organizer work when installed to BIS?
thanks!!!

That is really strange. I've been using it for quite some time and while I've seen the duplicate problem (not in 2.0, beta or release)it is an easy fix. Just uncheck the accounts you are syncing, sync, it removes all the data from the PPC, recheck the accounts, sync and it is all good. The only way you could mess up your desktop file is to manually accept the changes from the PPC.
If I may, I've been using Quicken in combination with Pocket Quicken for over four years and cannot complain one bit.
I even used Pocket Quicken with the Palm OS without incident. And since I migrated to PPC back in 2003 I can still attest to the reliability. It is worth the investment for a mobile solution.

Thanks for the solution. I'll try it as soon as I get home tonight. It'll be a lot easier than deleting and reinstalling the program.
FWIW, at least in my case, the duplicates appear to happen after I edit a transaction on the desktop that is already on the ppc. In other words the edited transaction on the desktop becomes a new (duplicate) transaction on the ppc. grrrrr.
Definitely a bug.
