vBar 2.0 Released

vBar 2.0 was released today and can be found at http://www.vieka.com/

I was able to partner with them for this release to make vBar VGA enhanced and able to dynamically move during orientation switch. There are additional fixes for PocketPC phone edition.

This means most of the problems people had with vBar should now be taken care of.

Go download!

It does three things primarily:
  • It replaces the X in the corner so that instead of "Smart Minimize" it actually closes the current program
  • It displays a dropdown list of running programs that can be switched to or killed from the menu
  • It can show the current charge and free memory in the taskbar

give it a try. I think there might be an issue with an icon not having been updated to VGA (I'm checking on it, its only a cosmetic change) but other than that it should work well with the x50v.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! This was my favorite task manager/switch before I began using WM2003SE. I love all the features of WisBar Advance 2, but it really brings my X50V to a crawl at times. This allows my X50V to feel "zippy" again!

Thanks... I'd only just found vbar and liked it.
Today is now Vbar2 day :)

I'm having a problem with Vbar2 and Sprite backup on my MDA compact (win2003SE phone Ed).

If VB is running Sprite will crash when trying to do a backup.

Not sure if this is the best place to report this. Or if anyone else is having the problem. My axim is at home at the moment so i can't try the combo on there.

I'd report your problem to Vieka directly. They have more resources to test different scenarios. I just helped them out with some modifications.

Oh and anyone with a VGA device should go and download vBar 2.1 which solves the case of the missing VGA icon.

vBar keeps freezing on my x50V.
Unfortunately, it's virtually impossible to track down when it happens, as it seems to be very random at when it wants to "crash".
It happens once a day, on average, and only a soft reset will allow me to unfreeze it.
I have v2.1.

I've tried several task managers lately (having survived without ANY since I got my X30), but only vbar seems to come close to working properly, albiet far from perfect.

I've tried a couple of the visbar incarnations, and each and every one of them crashed at one time or another. One even went into a loop trying to close Mapopolis.

So now I use vbar, which had not yet crashed on me, but still has some issues... such as when I swap the 'X' icon and batt/mem icon about - with 'X' on the left, it's half cut off by the date/time.

I really prefer visbar, but it was unstable. It flatly refused to run (ie crashed every time) when I chose to show the connectivity icon on the menu bar!

Does anyone else have these kind of problems? If so, is there an answer?

Thanks.

Is it running PPC 2002 still? I'm not sure the latest release supports before WM2003. Try finding a copy of 1.7 again, possibly by visiting the forums at vieka.com

That's very odd. Do you have other programs in the start bar? Maybe post this over at vieka.com's forums.

No, I used to have the switcher bar, but disabled it once I got VBar up and running.
I've not had the problem lately, so I'll see if I get it again.
