Dell switcher file path
I've been searching my x30 for some time now trying to find the path and file name of the dell switcher bar. The reason is I would like to add a shortcut to \\Windows\StartUp so that I don't need to open the switcher everytime Windows needs a reboot. Dell support insists that this is impossible to do, but they give no logical reason. I know if I can find the file name and path this will work fine. Does anyone know where this may be? Thanks!

If you have the right file explorer (like Resco) you could just click on switcher in the \windows\startmenu\programs directory, and then creat a .lnk file (I think).
Another alternative: Just get yourself a good third party switch that makes this possible. A very nice program that is a lot like switcher is NAV:

It is very easy to get NAV to start each time the unit boots.
Want more features than NAV (or switcher) has? Try the various freeware flavors of Wisbar (like icbar, vbar, etc). The one I use is here:

File is located under Windows\Shortcut\System. Copy the file to Windows\Startup.

The path for Switcher Bar application is '\Windows\Start Menu\Settings'. You can use any File Explorer like the in-built one, Total Commander, Resco, etc. Click on the 'Switcher Bar.lnk' file till the pop-up appears, click on 'Copy'. Now go to '\Windows\StartUp' folder, click on a blank area till the pop-up appears and then click on 'Paste as shortcut'. Voila!!! You the Switcher application will get started everytime you do a soft-reset.
No idea, why Dell's "technical support" would insist that this cannot be done. Some basic windows training needs to be given to those guys.

As stated previously, the actual executable is located in \Windows.
The file you are referencing is actually a '.lnk' file (or a link) to the executable.
While you can "link to a link" by following your instructions, I like to setup links directly to the executable.

The shortcut to Switcher application is under '\Windows\SwitcherBar.exe'. You can of course use this file to create the shortcut that is needed.
But personally, I prefer to use the "link to link" method. This is purely because, its possible that the program SwitcherBar is being called by passing some parameters to it (No idea whether this is done or not). By using the OS provided link file, you are basically making sure that the link file that you create also contains the same set of parameters.
