Sprite Restore

After doing a Sprite restore should you un-install then reinstall all your programs?

please be specific on what condition would you do the restore?

basically, the general idea one would do a RESTORE is that he or she would NOT need to install programs (after a hard reset, etc.)

I did a restore to try to fix a problem on my GPS software. It didn't work...Do I need to uninstall all my software and reinstall?

this is hard to answer (since i dont know anything about GPS software)

all i do know is that i still never encountered a problem from a Sprite Restore...

just an additional question - did you do a FULL HARD RESET before doing the Sprite Restore?

Let me rephrase. I was just wondering what a sprite restore does. Does it restore program files? If you run a restore, will all your programs keep their same settings, or revert back to the settings of when you ran the backup. I'm really confused and new to all of this. Thanks for taking the time to answer all my questions!

The restore restore from your last backup including all the software as it was then. Nothing less or more.

Sprite restores everything that was in MAIN MEMORY only! It does nothing for software on a storage card or BIS. If the program files in these locations gets scrambled, you're stuck reinstalling.

that depends on the settings. if you included persistant memory in the backup, it will restore it too.

i dont have problems with this though - there are cases when i had to restore a FULL backup (including Main memory, SD card, and BIS)...

but yes, there is some kind of glitch that would hold-up the restore process... so this is what i do (the most recent restore ive had was a couple of days back when i had to rollback to state before P+ 3.0):
  1. hard reset
  2. selective restore - only SD/CF card (from the File System directory in Sprite)
  3. selective restore - only BIS (from the Persistent Storage directory in Sprite)
  4. selective restore - only MAIN Memory (select everything Except File System for the SD card/CF card, and Persistent Storage)
  5. soft reset
  6. good as new
regards!!!

PS: there seems to be glitch in the Sprite Backup process - to backup the SD card, this would be considered as Persistent Storage/Memory... but when a Restore is to be performed, it wouldnt show-up in the Persistent Storage directory, but inside the File System

Are your programs working after you do this, or do you need to reinstall everything?

Programs work for me. when you restore the main stuff it also restores the registry so any file that has registry settings should then work again. and of course standalone stuff works anyway.

BD,
I've looked in options and don't see "persistent memory".

I'm using 3.1.4 build 2419 - set to extended mode.

Would you please point me to it? Thanks.:approve:

1. when you run Sprite
2. goto "Options"
3. goto "Backup Options"
4. goto "Exclusion Rules"
5. make sure that "Enable Exclusion Rules" is CHECKED
6. and that "Persistent Storage" is NOT CHECKED
7. press "OK"
8. a new folder would be created in the "Pocket PC" tree to be backup

PS: im also using the same build
