I've just noticed the horizontal scrollbar for channels with programme names that are a bit too long. Was that present in the previous release?

From the list of changes...
"Changes since version 1.0
...
Horizontal scrollbars now appear when necessary"
But I'm glad you like it :approve:

Point 3 I'm not clear about. What do you mean by "user pre-defined searches"?
Regarding the borders, I don't think it would make that much difference. I've sized them so that the listview items and textbox text sort of fit. I know they look a bit bigger on the Axim VGA screen, but not everyone has one of those
Plus, I have tried to make my app VGA-aware, but it's not working very well with .NET 1.x - apparently .NET 2 is much better...

"User pre-defined searches" - what I mean is that I can set up one (or more) search strings which I can access quickly from say the "View" menu.
For example, to have a search like "stargate startrek poirot" (i.e. find any programs with stargate, startrek or poirot in their titles or descriptions) which is saved between sessions which I can quickly recall and run (from say the "View" menu next to "List view" or "Search view" - call say "My Search"?).
The reason for this type of search is so that as I am particularly interested in a certain range of programs which I don't want to miss, this search would quickly list all my favorite programs in a quick and simple way.
This would require searching for multiple terms/words - a bit more complicated :rolling:
I am not very familiar with .NET coding - I know how to do it for C++ native easily...
Regarding the speed of importing the XML into the SQL database - what about running the import on the desktop - like there are remote PDA file handling routines, there are also remote database handling routines...
Fantastic tool - especially as it helped me find that Stargate and Startrek are back on Ch4 once again :)

Maybe instead of user-defined searches, it could remember the last 25 (say) searches - I can change the search box to a search combo. The problem is not so much how to do something, it's having the room for it. The listings are in a SQL database, so searching is fast and simple. Maybe a simple AND and OR would be useful in the search - a & for AND and a | for OR...
The problem with a desktop import is that there's no way at the moment of creating or updating a SQL CE database on the desktop with .NET 1.x. This will change with .NET 2, but I can't do anything till that's released.
In any event I'm on on holiday for three weeks in a couple of weeks, so I won't be able to do much until after I come back.
Anyway, glad you like it :approve:

The last 25 searches would be cool - especially with AND or OR - that would be incredibly powerful!
Shame about .NET 1.x - what about P/Invoke (I know nothing about this, other than various people saying that you can do "anything" with it...hum...they were Microsoft people...).
Hope you have a great holiday - going anywhere nice?

P/Invoke is used to call Win32 DLLs from .NET. The problem with the current SQL/SQL CE setup is that microsoft expect you to have a full-blown SQL Server on your desktop, and SQL CE on your PDA. So you can transfer data between the two. But you can't manipulate data native to one on another platform. And I think asking people to install SQL Server on their desktops is a bit much.
I'm off to Thailand - my first time there so I hope I enjoy it...

True...(sql...)
Fantastic about Thailand - we were in Thailand last Easter visiting some missionary friends living in Chiang Mai. Also went down to Khao Lak to help on some rebuilding projects. We've just booked to go back next Easter too now :). Have a fantastic time!

I'm getting the same errors too now. The download yesterday lunchtime was fine. Tried regenerating the channels etc, but still no joy.
HOPEFULLY this is just a server glitch...

The server's been known to go down every so often, but usually not for this long. Maybe a post over at the xmltv forums would help. Perhaps Alan Birtles knows something...

Great!
Regarding you being off to Thailand - just had an email from the son of our friends in Chiang Mai (Northern Thailand):
"Today it flooded really bad, and last night at 10:00 Mummy's knees
were at the water level!!!
Today at school we got sent home because of the flood, and tomorrow we are not going to go to school, and maybee the whole week!!! Isn't that cool."

Had a great time in Thailand.
The clocks went back just before I arrived back, so the listings will be an hour out, as I didn't have chance to change the program to allow for time offsets. But I'll fix it before the clocks go forward.

Welcome back - hope you had a great time!
Mine still looks correct - BBC1 10pm news is still at 10pm...
