I'm having a major problem with my Axim that Dell has been completely unhelpful in solving. Any program I install will not completely uninstall properly. Whether I do it through activesync or from the Axim itself, the program either will not completely remove, or it will remove but the prorgam title will remain in the window of installed programs. How can I make sure programs are properly uninstalled and not consuming space? What about removing the names of uninstalled programs from the list?
Thanks so much for any help in advance,
Guido

I have the same problem with Pocket facelift which I attribute to the pfaceBoot.exe file being read-only. Have contacted the company(NOVOSEC) to find out how to remove this program from memory.
We need to complain anytime software will not provide a way to uninstall itself.

Please take a few moments and explain in detail how you are attempting to remove the programs since there are several ways to remove programs. This little bit of effort on your end will make reaching the solution much easer and quicker.
Thanks

Here is the reply fron NOVOSEC. It worked!
*******
this happens very rarely... (sorry for this).
1. Be sure that "Load on startup" is UNCHEKCED in facelift settings.
2. Soft-Reset the Pocket PC
3. Uninstall facelift (maybe some files will be still in use)
4. Soft-Reset the Pocket PC
5. Uninstall facelift again (now all files will be gone)
Hope this helps,
Regards,
******

I Downloaded Agenda Fusion trial version twice [wasn't sure about it] both times I had to uninstall it twice to remove the program entirely. I just accepted it and didn't think anything of it. Other trial programs uninstalled the first time around. So I guess this depends on the software being installed and not the Axim, but possibly Windows CE

Make sure the program isn't running. Agenda Fusion wants to map itself to keys, so it's a little harder to uninstall. I've found Agenda Fusion to be an extremely well-behaved program, especially considering all it tries to do.

Intellisync is another of the "resident" programs that cannot be deleted cleanly. They run on reset, then park something in the background to monitor the connection port, or keys, or some other trigger that brings them to the foreground. These programs don't remove cleanly because you cannot delete anything that is running. When you try you get the "read only" error. To get rid of these programs, use Remove programs, then soft reset and Remove programs again. That usually cleans them up for me. If the second Remove programs doesn't show the program, just use File Explorer to find the files associated with the app and delete them directly.

Jake,
I tried all this stuff to no avail to remove Pocket Facelift. The folder icon still appears in the Programs area. I still have 4 icons in the folder but nothing starts when I tap them. Just tells me 'can't find pfacetaskswitch (or whatever one I choose) or one of it's components. I tried 'add/remove on my pc and on Axim. It won't remove on Axim...shows as Novesec Pocket facelift. I tap remove and it doesn't leave!!
Help!! It's so annoying. I've tried a dozen soft resets and numerous uninstall procedures.

I had once such a penetrant app (forgot the name though) but the final trick was hecking the registry.
In both locations Current_User and Local_Machine is a Software key section , usullay with the name of the company producing the application.
Just kill the applications key completely, after that residuals can be removed with explorer without much problems.

Use file explorer and go to where the folder is showing. Tap and Hold on the folder until the menu appears, then tap either Delete or Cut or whatever it says to make it go away. What's been left behind in the install are just links or shortcuts to the programs. Untidy of them to leave that behind, but you can't control third party programmers...

Intellisync Removal Instructions
I found these directions for removing Intellisync at Pumatech's website. The URL is here. I don't know if it's a stable address though; if it comes up as a dead link then just do a knowledge base search for "uninstall" and it's the #1 result.
----
If you have followed the steps in Answer ID 1836 and Intellisync will not uninstall from your Pocket then:
On the device:
1. Tap on start->programs->File Explorer
2. In the upper left corner under the heading "File Explorer" tap on the down arrow icon and tap on My device.
3. Tap on the Windows folder, then tap on the StartUp folder
4. Tap and hold the "Start Up Intellisync" folder then choose the delete option in the resulting menu
5. Soft reset the device (equivalent to a reboot)
6. Now try removing the intellisync listing in the Remove programs icon (Start->Settings->System tab->Remove Programs). It may still give an error that it could not remove all files, but as long as it is removed from the list we can proceed.
If Intellisync still will not uninstall from the device, then a "Hard Reset" of the device may be necessary.
