I agree that it is most likely a port issue, for sure port forwarding is a tricky issue for anyone who is not familar with programming routers, or what port forwarding even is for that matter. And i meant to type 'easier' not 'faster'.

thanks a lot guys.. I do have an IP assigned to my desktop like 192.168.1.1. and it doesn't change. it remains FIXED in my router.

so in the VNC input I should put 192.168.1.1:(*) [what should I put in place of (*).. the VNC site says just put a 0 after the :]

also, on my PPC, when i enter the VNC server and press ok the "connection details" window just vanishes and nothing happen.. why is that?

and on my desktop, I'm not sure the server is running properly I don't see anything running on my desktop when I click "start VNC service". thanks again guys..

Definately a good VNC program to use.

As for the vanishing window, it sounds as though your putting in an address that is not valid for VNC. Make sure your router is forwarding to that port, mine is set to forward to 192.168.1.101 between the ports 3999 - 4001.

tried :5900.. no use.. I wonder if I'm running the server properly. I just checked my LAN-DHCP.. its static and I'm entering the correct IP.

on the server option, accept connection port is set to :5900 ..why didnt it work.. weird.

Reboot the router, and the computer and try it again. Wouldn't hurt...

Do you have a software firewall installed? Like the XP one perhaps?

hmm.. I do have firewalls on.. but VNC is unblocked in windows firewall.. I'll try disabling zonealarm and try again.

Also wanted to ask, do you need C/.Net support on your PPC to run VNC viewer?

..turned off all firewalls.. still same.. :( ..vanishing VNC window on PPC.

When that window vanishes for me it's normally a communications error.

download an app called vxUtil to your Axim and use the Port Scanner function to scan your PC

I have a VNC server on 192.168.1.101 so a scan shows that port 5900 is open on that address.

on my VNC server options, it says

"accept connections on port: 5900"
"serve java viewer on port: 5800"

so if I put in 192.168.0.2:5900 that should be correct right? I've also tried with :5800.
