is there anyway to remove regtweak totaly und restort original settings?
regards,
patrick
Uninstall the utility from "Settings->System->Remove Programs" will remove it totally. It does not remember the original settings so you will have to use this tool to change the settings back before you uninstall it.
The reason I don't have the feature to restore the settings is that the settings could be changed by other tools at any time as well. I don't want to overwrite other application changes by "restoring" to the state when this tool runs. I hope this makes sense.
Yes: most of the features will work on WM5. But I didn't test extensively on a borrowed WM5 device. The status monitor works after being launched by the "RegTweak" tool.
No: The status monitor is not launched after soft-reset. You will have to run the "RegTweak" again, don't have to change anything in there, and click OK to close it, do not reset, and the monitor will be launched. The reason is that the unsigned system service dll cannot be launched at boot up time. This is WM5 security feature.
great got it - ok so, on my Eten WM5 device
1. date and time work (BTW, any way of increasing the font size of the time - no biggie but nice)and remain through a soft reset.
2. power/battery combos do not
3. keep getting message saying "enter integer between 0 and 10240" for what looks like the content limit field - the field is pre populated with 8712. this occues whether the IE V6 option is checked or not

1. The tool simply enable date/time display. It does not play with the found size. Obviously WM5 doesn't handle it properly when date is enabled. It would be nice if the tool set the font size, but that needs some extra effort and time.
2. As I mentioned in previous posts, power/battery status does not show after reset on WM5 because the unsigned service cannot be loaded at boot time. Run RegTweak and click OK to close it without reset will bring it up.
3. The field is not wide enough to display all the digits. The number is probably 8712x or x8712, which is larger than 10240. I put the limit there trying not to allow the cache to be too big. Maybe I should increase that number or remove the limit completely.
I would like to start programming software for WM5.
I have purchased the Visual Studio .NET 2005 (Acedemic, for $50) as well as installed the WM5 PPC SDK and the Mobile Applications Development kit (which I wasn't sure if it was for 2003 or 2005).
Ideally, I'd like to start with the software you have already written... well, I say that, my goal is to have it end up *like* that. Perhaps we should start a forum for programming?
In any case, I just learned that C# is *not* the way to go for writting Today screens... apparantly C is the way to go, I think.
I've written a small rinky-dink timer program (I used it for timing a speech).
Were there any problems along the way of writting this software that you can inform me of, so I can avoid those pot holes? :)
I saw that you created a new thread about programming. I don't have much to say beyond what people already replied. Personally I haven't played much with .NET 2005, WM5, C# yet. I hope Today screen is easier and less buggy now than that on WM2003 and earlier when I programmed it.
I figured out how to detect XScale CPU speed. Now the monitor utility displays the current CPU speed as well!
The left half of the bottom screen line shows, in green, the current CPU speed. The full length (half screen width) represents 624MHz, so if the green line is 2/3 of that, it's 416MHz.
The right half of the bottom line is the CPU load. If the CPU is not XScale CPU, the speed is not displayed and the full length is still CPU load.
In addition, I created a WM5 cab file, which makes sure the monitor utility is enabled after soft-reset. This is not tested since I don't have WM5 device. Please give it a try and let me know if it works.
Dogfood,
This is great! One thing (if it's doable), can you give the user the option of deciding how many pixels high the bars are? I couldn't even see the bottom bars until I started watching a movie in TCPMP widescreen. Probably a combo of wrong color themes and bad eyesight
