So far I have not added any significant software to the Ax. So, for now, I find that the canned software is suiting my needs. (at least without converting word doc's - does anyone know what the benefit is of the conversion? does is only reduce file size?)
What all is ClearVue?

THe current Pocket Word, IMO, is atrocious, as for Activesync, I generally ignore it, and transfer files via card reader (you can, even from Pocket Word, save as a word or rich text document, and move it onto a card)
But every since I've gotten Text Maker, I don't think I could go back to using the Pocket Word application:

this is a full word document editor, as for the conversion the reasons it does this is because the Pocket Word app was designed for Pocket PC devices years ago with 16 MB of ROM, or less, so was made really compact, now with the Axim, full word processors are comfortably possible, with Text Maker. ClearVue doesn't drop any features either, but is more or less a document reader than full word processor for creating docs from scratch.
it is pretty expensive though, and I know you said that if you don't need it, that it isn't necessarily worth the extra expense.
