Skype for PPC

Anybody tried it yet ?

I'm wondering since I have X30 Mid, will it still be able to run Skype ? Notice the min req of 400Mhz

Btw can you use bluetooth earpiece with Axim to do Skype ? That will be sweet. Local use Cell ... International use Axim :)

Please write any experience you have with Skype PPC ! Thx

I am pretty sure that the x30 does not support bluetooth headsets (but the x50 does) You probably wont have any trouble running skype on it, but you can't listen to me because I have an x50v. Try just downloading it and trying it yourself.

Yup, the mid and high do have wifi and BT

tancerman why won't x30 support bluetooth ? Btw what's the use of BT before the headset comes out anyway ? Synch and dial contact only no ?

I tried it on My Axim X50v since I actually like the sound quality of Skype when my wife uses it to make international calls. So I thought it would be neat to have same functionality for my Axim.

To sum it up, don't bother with Skype for PPC unless you don't own a cellphone or something. Sound quality is actually worse then those 1cent per minute international call calling card. Also there was about 1.5 second delay.

It was kind of interesting to use Axim to make phone call (hold it upside down and use it like a phone so that you can listen from the speaker and talk into the microphone) for first minute or so but got tired of it very quickly due to sound quality and the delay I mentioned earlier. Skype for PC is pretty good but NOT for PPC.

I guess it depends on quality of the wifi connection and speed of your processor. Last week I was in NY on business (I live in the UK). I had my x50v with me, (and my k750i - but that costs a fortune to 'phone the UK roaming). My credit card had been stopped and I needed to find out what was going on (turned out it was my 'unusual usage pattern :)). I found a hotel lobby with wifi, connected and chatted for ages to barclaycard over skype, no problem. Hardly cost anyting. Quality wasn't quite a good as a cell 'phone but it was certainly good enough. I use skype a lot on my PC to call home from canada (we have offices there) and its really good on that. Skype IS better on a PC, but its ok on the x50v.

I like using skype on the PPC (helpful when traveling to various countries). At first I used headphones to listen and spoke into the PPC speaker (which was fine) and then got a headset which works good too. I've used it with wireless and wired cable (which works better since it has a faster connection). What's really nice is skype in. It allows people in so Cal (my home) to call a local number there which rings my computer or PPC (in Europe) if I'm connected to the net. Also, since it's free (not the skypein but in general) so it's a nice to have when needed.

What model of Axim and what make of headset? I've never got a bluetooth headset (Logitech) to work properply with skype and a X30H. I can hear the person I'm calling but they cannot hear me.

Judging from various posts in the confs I'm not alone in that regard.

I use Skype on my Axim x50v and find it fantastic, no noticeable delay even when I use it on my super cheap 512 broadband.
I tend to use headphones and turn auto gain off on the mic but i'm very happy with it and SkypeOut is pretty good value!
I even got it to work over GPRS, damn if only it didn't cost a fortune! 222kb for a 30sec call, so my 10MB inclusive allowance would be used up in 20mins~£8
Oh I hate mobile phone networks! Bring on Blanket WIMAX coverage!

In my experience with it (Axim x50v) others can hear me just fine, though it sounds like I'm in a big empty auditorium. Sadly, I can't hear them very well. You should make sure that the processor is set to "maximum performance" and that there are no other applications running... but it's still difficult to understand people's voices, and they get tired of you saying, "What? Come again?"

Fine for the rare case when you're in an emergency and happen to be in a WiFi spot.

Skype works very very well for me. I have experienced no delay/ lagg/ static or anything of that sort. People don't even know that im using my PDA, they think im at home with my desktop computer. You just have to adjust the mic gain and everything should be perfect.

PS(Works very well on Verizons EVDO network using BT DUN )

I use Skype daily with my X50v. The sound quality is great. As good as a landline--but that's to other computers.

I've tried Skype Out with my X50v and my regular computer and I'm not that impressed. Sometimes the calls go through without a hitch, but more often than not it sounds like a crappy cell phone. Skype Out is the pay service Skype offers to call landlines and cell phones. It still needs some work.

I do think Skype is fantastic for the Axim X50v. I've never had a problem and I use it daily.

Late last year and earlier this year when I did a lot of traveling singing with a southern gospel quartet, I used skype every weekend to communicate with the family and it ran great on an Axim X3i. The overall sound quality was that same as my laptop, and didn't take as long to boot up
