Put Icon in Command bar?
I know there are several apps out there that put their Icon in the Command bar at the bottom of the screen. Does anyone know how one could go about doing this with any shortcut? I am sure it is a registery thing but I just cant seem to find it.

I am not looking for those apps that let you place a shortcut on the today screen, those are just a pain to me.

This is actually an individual application thing, most of the ones that go back there were old Windows CE devices, but it is an issue of whether or not these variousd developers include that as a feature in their software...

http://icbar.ictinus.com

your best bet would be waiting for similar functionality as this to be added to this, or other programs, at least as far as I know of...

I have finally gotten around to contacting the Icbar developers to see if there are any plans on implementing shortcuts into the menu bar. I'll keep everyone posted if I hear anything back from them.

There is a problem with that idea. You'd only be able to use those Icons on the Today screen...all other apps use that bottom bar to carry their command buttons.

There was an app I tried that allowed you to set shortcuts on the systray (can't remember the name...try searching this site under "systray"), but I got fed up with having to go back to Today to access them, especially when apps like TdLaunch or RhinoLaunch can hold many more Icons.

Well, as it is I only have one app running on my systray -- GSPlayer, and I like that, becasue if I cilc on the icon I have a nice cascading menu coming up from it, where I can control MP3s or what have you, right from the today screen, I can also hit a harware button to switch the app on and off, and it has a custom skin I designed that fits in with the rest of my system (I'm a detail freak and a graphics monkey )

for running tasks, I like the Icbar method, of stacking them on the task bar (that is only logical... actaully), what I would prefer to see on the systray would be a launch system, not simply one-click icons, but icons representing sets of cascading menus, or something along those lines.

Actually, what I;d find most useful would be to assign Icbar buttons to the bottom bar, like put battery meter, some shortcut buttons, and so on down there.

I'd like to see tabs available, something like LauncherX for PalmOS. Perhaps similar to the "More Todays" app, but tabbed so you don't have to scroll through them individually (ie. screen 1, then screen 2, screen 3........)

that can be done from Icbar if you'd like, you could put little thin custom icons, and assign each to two programs (tap and hold)

Here is the reply they sent me in regards to my question of their possibly supporting menu bar shortcuts:
Quote:
Hi Jordan,
I haven't really put to much thought into the idea of placing shortcuts on the menu bar. As has been mentioned elsewhere and perhaps even on Aximsite.com, you would only have access to these shortcuts when viewing the today screen.
For the moment, I'd say it isn't a priority for me, but I won't rule it out completely.
However, have you seen this thread about WinSkin?
http://discussion.brighthand.com/sho...hlight=winskin

Marcello, the PocketDict author, has taken his code for skinning the bottom bar and extended it to allow the bar to 'auto-hide' and 'popup' over applications. People have also asked him about adding shortcuts. I think he initially was thinking 'no' to them, but with the auto-hide/popup feature he may have changed his mind.

Other than chasing reported bugs, removing resource leaks, completing language translations (Russian!)... I am currently looking at how to implement some Phone Edition functions... signal strength etc, which might end up on the menu bar.

Of course there is lots more to come too
Better skin handling (wisbar/dashboard compatible)... perhaps even some form of .tsk support for themes, but that is probably way off.

Cheers,
Paul

This WinSkin software sounds like it will be a promising app to use in conjunction with Icbar in the future. Just have to wait and see what it's like whenever he releases it. Still sounds pretty far away though, as it is not even beta tested yet.
