Pocket Informant,Pocket Confusion
I'm old enough to remember when home computers first came out (thanks Radio Shack). Everybody was programming in basic. The programs were so filled with every bell and whistle that the machines could produce that it was hard to tell what the program was suppose to do in the first place. Pocket Informant reminds me of one of these programs.
There are so many options, the program looses it's functionality I would be glad to pay twice as much for a program with half the screen clutter.
The documentation is 36 letter sized pages. I have deleted it but I'm having a hard time getting rid of some remaining PI utilities on my main screen. Can someone help me?

Thanks in advance, Richard Olson

Strange, I also remember those days and I find PI very intuitive and very user friendly. Oh, well.

To remove, open file explorer and look for any PI related .lnk or shortcut files in Start and Programs folders. Then delete them and soft reset.

Jake,

Have to agree with you 1000%. An old DOS user, I can't remember many bells and whistles. In fact, I don't remember any in the early days of the TRS-80, the DEC Rainbows and DEC Robins (sold strictly to employees as I recall). Bells and whistled didn't really come around until Quarterdeck (and one other I used more than Quarterdeck) brought out its "multitasking" applications and these were few and far between.

Wow, a radio shack TRS-80 -- that's what I started out on (I can still hear the tape drive squeeling in the background!). I had a Timex too!! Those were great...

I just started using Pocket Informant early last week, and was thoroughly confused by it as well, to begin with. I ended up spening about an hour and a half with the users manual, and it was well worth it. Now I'm in love with it, and can't imagine going back to the stuff that came with my Axim. All in all, I can get as much information out of it as I can my desktop Outlook 2002.

Sorry to hear you had difficulties with PI.....I use it, and I've found it to be fantastic and quite user friendly.

Hopefully you'll get rid of the last remaining links and move on to something you like more. Cheers!

I also originally thought Pocket Informant was a bit cluttered when I tried it in trial mode until I skimmed through the manual. It totally changed my mind. You can have as much or as little on the screen as you want. Besides, I was a Datebk 3/4/5 user on the Palm in a prior life. This isn't any less user friendly by any means.

My only remaining "gripes" are 1) that I can't seem to find a way to change the default length of a new appointment and 2) that you can't set reminders days ahead without doing a little math (i.e., 1 day = 1440 minutes).

Can anyone point me in the general direction of how to change the default appointment length?

Thanks!

My first computer was the ibm xt. I think the first pda was Osbourne. I tried PI and really liked it, but I want to sync to Act!, not Outlook, so decided not to use it. Instead I got an old palm tungsten T w/Act! for palm os on it.

I agree that with some time spent on the program, you'll likely come to reaaly like it. If you feel a need to uninstall though, you can go to their forums and they do have an uninstall guide(although it's not much different than Jakerich's comment-well maybe a little more detailed).

Programs like PI can be as complex or simple as a user desires. Datebk5 for Palm is the same way. Time spent learning them is always time well spent. I've come to depend heavily on PI for my PIM needs and have no regrets.

I'd like to add - one major reason for the length of our docs is not because of anything to do with it being complicated. Its a reference doc so half of it is literally just line by line descriptions of each option (there are many options); a dozen pages are taken up by mundane things like a TOC and intro; and then the other half is just screenshots

Pocket info.
It's those options that I can't get to. The .pdf links don't work. How or where can I access those options.?

Which PDF link doesn't work? I just tried it and its working. http://download.pocketinformant.com/6/Reference.pdf

You can also just go into Help from the Start menu while in PI to access the HTML version of that help file.
