Exclamation 5 most useful applications

I realize this has been done before but I would just like to see what everyone else thinks are the five best applications and what's so good about the applications. Please let us all know where it can be found. Thanks

www.wincommander.com
www.phm.lu <- very nice one (regeditor and much more stuff)

Being a newbie too, I find this kind of post very helpful in deciding what software to acquire for making this technology more useful and fun.

By far my best investment has to be:

Resco File Explorer (a top notch utility I can't imagine being without)
- Resco Screen Capture (included with the above)
- Resco Registry Editor (also included with File Explorer)

Other stuff I use everyday:

-SpeedClean (free)
-Microsoft Reader (free)
-Acrobat Reader (free)
-Resco Picture Viewer (comes with Axim)
-IP Manager
-StorageTools
-PocketTV (free)
-PocketMVP (free)
-ShutDown (free)
-Pocket Hosts (free)

Regards

I'm in sales so these apps are what I find I'm using all the time:

1) Resco Picture Viewer - A picture's worth a thousand words

2) Launcher - www.scottandmichelle.net/scott/cestuff.html - great little Today screen launcher bar. Very simple and free.

3) TaskPlus by GregSoft - I can see all my tasks on the Today screen. Has the ability to clone by category, so I can separate "Phone calls" from regular to-do stuff.

4) Calendar+ by PepeSoft - Lets me see a week or more at a glance from the today screen.

5) AreaCodes 2.0.7 by Intrepidsoft - I cover multiple states, so I can figure out where someone is calling from by area code.

Other stuff I'm using is:

TurboTray498 - a freebie overclocking prog that sits in the tray

Cadenza mNotes - cuz my company uses Lotus Notes (ack!)

FJVG QuickContacts - not so "quick" but it does sort my contacts by state and nothing else does.

PHMRegEdit - great registry editor. quick search.

Cadezena mNotes (Because I am Mr Lotus Notes Domino Guy)
wisbar 1.2 beta 4 (waiting for wisbar advance)
Calendar+
Tasks+
and tdlaunch

For many more, just do a search on this site for "Show off your Today Screen" That is how I found most of mine and people included the urls in those posts, plus you get to see how other people have their Axim setup.

Question Resco file explorer

What make Resco so much better than windows file explorer? I heard some things about icbar is it much better than the switchbar that comes with Axim?

In my opinion, Gigabar is probably the most important program that I have on my Axim. It looks nice, and has soooo many functions that I use as each 'button' can be programmed to handle almost 10 commands. The functions I use the most are: ON one of the buttons: tap (copy), double tap (paste), also the sys. commands like batt., brightness, memory etc. I have designed a nice looking 3D tray that holds all these buttons at the top.
Some other important ones are : uptime meter, calander+, tdLaunch, Side X

There are some registry hacks that enhance certain displays and software on the unit. MANY software apps now do this for you. Here is link of the tweaks

Breaking down my 5....

1. Pocket Informant. My favorite PIM
2. mNotes Cadenza. Because Notes 5 is what I use at work, and I need that mail.
3. WisBar. Who's silly idea was "Smart Minimize" anyway?
4. Battery Bar 2003. All the info I need on the Axim, and wuick tap access to all my programs
5. Pocket MVP. Great sounding player with 10- band EQ, and it's free.

Other tools include @mail, Microsoft Reader, Palm Reader, ListPro, eWallet, NoteM, and Resco File Explorer

Apple... ya see, Microsoft tried to copy a high-end Unix-Based Desktop PC OS Feature, on a 320x240 screen that takes less than a second to boot any given program from scratch... in other words, a moron with "wecantooitis"

as for me in no particular order (NOTE: these are only among programs I downloaded, not standard ones):
  • PocketBible -- http://www.laridian.com
  • WordCommands -- allows keyboard shortcuts in pocket word, I have Dell foldable hence this is useful (free)
  • Foldable Keyboard Driver
  • High Quality Spanish-English Dictionary
  • uBook (MicroBook) -- HTML browser designed for readability, and eBooks. Becasue it works with HTML and Plain Text, I don't have any of the crap you get with Microsoft Reader, like paying for public domain stories... (Free)
sorry for not having links, but I've had all these things on my PC for so long, I don't remember teh URLs to most of them

My top USED programs though, aren't my top most Useful, in fact, they are mostly time wasting devices:
  • Pocket Music -- high quality free MP3 player, although it has a few issues when played in the background with foldable keyboard.
  • GSPlayer -- not as good of sound quality, but nicer for background play, which isn't as important if using small headphones for music while working
  • Argentum -- fun strategy game, nice time waster
  • NFPencil -- a little drawing application that I've made a few slick drawings with
  • Icbar -- Skinnable task bar (that I have skinned myself ) with a number of bonus functions, (free). It does have a few useful features, but it's mostly aesthetic and mostly unnecessary.
