Hardware Button Lock?
Are there any programs available that can lock all the hardware buttons on the Axim, except the power button itself? Frequently when I've got the axim in my pocket, the buttons somehow get pressed, which turns on the unit, which wastes battery power. This of course, sucks. Any help would be appreciated, I can't find a damn thing.

Go into Start-Settings-System tab. Tap on the Power icon. Then tap on the Control tab. At the bottom of the screen there are a couple options for When the device is in suspend mode. Simply uncheck the Turn on device if a program button is pressed.

Just so OutRigged understands, the method that pmoto describes works great for most users. But it DOES still allow the unit to cut on when power button is just ever so slightly pressed. Still, it greatly cuts down on the chances of the unit coming on from mistaken button presses. I'm not sure of the name of it, but I have seen some software in the past that makes you press a certain combination of keys (user-defined of course) before the unit turns back on. Maybe searching around on this forum, or possibly on google will help? If i remember the name of it, I'll post a reply.

Thanks for both of your replies. I took pmoto's suggestion, and it seems to have helped so far. My main problem was application buttons getting pressed. I have seen the program you were talking about, deftech, but I didn't really care for pressing a combination of keys to boot up the ppc.

Slightly off topic but...

Why has the Axim got six buttons to turn the damn thing on?

If I press the Calendar button I want the unit to switch on and activate the Calendar app. This is the way that the last two Pocket PC's I've owned have worked.

Is there a setting I've missed or 3rd party app to acheive this.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Cheers

Steve

Jake,

That's fine if the unit is on. However, when it's off and a button is pressed all that happens is the unit switches on. I can't seem to get it to launch the application related to the key without pressing the key once more.

Cheers

That's wierd. It should pop up. When I press my contacts, button or one of the four, I get my contact list, calendar, etc. to open.

Do you have NiceStart installed? Cuz I find that NiceStart has this minor bug that prevents the launching of those apps from off state.

Cheers.

Hello Deftech,

would you be so nice and give me the name of the program, a link or any other hint to find this useful tool. I would prefer to lock my axim with a special combination of the hardware buttons. Its ugly to type six times a day the same passphrase with the virtual Keyboard.

thanks,

SleepyHollow

That's what I was saying in my thread, guys.....I can't remember the name of it for the life of me. I'm pretty sure I've seen it pop up in a thread or two on here as well though, so you might try searching the forums??? If I happen to remember the name, or run across the file on my hard drive, I'll let ya know.

Hi Fritz,

No, I don't have NiceStart installed. However, I finally tracked the problem down...

If a password (simple or strong) is required on powerup, then the hardware buttons don't automatically activate the corresponding application. This happens even when a timeout period is active. For instance, if the lockout is 4 hours and the unit is switched off and then immediately back on the problem still occurs. So now I have switched the password protection on the device off to get the hardware buttons to work properly which is complete cr*p!

Cheers

Steve
