Personally, I think people that are so pressed for time that they have to use "every second" like that are too damned busy.
You know what I think is REALLY silly? These people that go around with these Blue Tooth earphones in their heads. You see them everywhere - Wal Mart, the grocery store, walking to the office. Most of them are frickin' zombies. OK, so it's probably a safer alternative when driving so you can have hands off, but you see these people walking around all the time. Reminds me of the BORG. Resistance is FUTILE!
I tried texting a time or two while driving, just to see how distracted it would make me. Dad-gum ... it would have been just flat EASY to miss something and get in a big wreck. I won't ever do that again.
I'm a Private Pilot - so I understand the issues with cockpit workflow and distraction. Even TRAINED as I am to handle radio communications and other multiple tasks in a cockpit, I realize that a cell phone steals about 50% of your attention. You can NOT afford that at 70MPH with multiple vehicles (targets) around you (like on I-4). It is a DEADLY mixture. Even when you get good at texting "one handed" you are seriously splitting your attention from your #1 job - driving the car.
Sorry for the rant - some days I think we've pushed this "cool" technology too far. The trouble is that we PAY for all this "convenience" and wonder why we get stress-related diseases all over the place!
