Accessing internet NOT using Activesync
Is it possible to access the internet using bluetooth WITHOUT going through activesync on a WinXP SP2 machine? I've read the bluetooth guie here http://www.aximsite.com/bluetooth but that was for PRE SP2 machines with the widcomm bluetooth stack. I can access everything through active sync but need to use the internet when another machine is docked and synced to the PC.

Thanks

I've never used BT, but I think it's possible to set up Internet Connection Sharing between the BT adapter and network connection on a PC. If this is true, then the answer to you question is yes. Check the WinXP help files or M$' website for setting up ICS.

Yep, Ike is right on point. You can setup ICS on your computer. The BT adapter will use the internet connection of the computer to access the internet. So when your PPC connects to your computer via BT it will utilize ICS on the computer to access the internet. The process of setting up ICS is mentioned in the BT guide linked on this site. Since I have not used the BT stack in XP SP2 I would suggest looking at the online help files on your desktop.

It seems it should be straight forward. But for me and quite a few others there is NO ICS available either from the advanced tab of the lan connection nor from running the network wizzard. I found a fair few people with the SAME problem of NO ICS even though it's enabled in services and no way of fixing it.

I have found a way around this. It seems that when you use the SP2 built in drivers windows doesn't seem to enable ICS for this. there are 2 ways around it.

1. install the microsoft loopback network driver by starting add new hardware and selecting choose from list and then network adapters and then microsoft loopback.

2. reinstall the origional bluetooth driver stack and control program that came with the adapter. Using this methode http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=35927 . You do NOT have to download the patched drivers just fllow the instructions on how to reinstall widcomm drivers.
