hx2750/BT/Sony ericsson V800/internet
Oh wise ones ,

I have tried everything in the book to connect to the internet via mobile phone (Sony Ericsson V800 & P910, Nokia 6310i, Motorola v600). I have followed handbook, Teds Bluetooth guide and intuition but to no avail. Although above phones do not appear in the BT Phone Manager nor the Bluetooth manager they are, mostly, picked up in pairing with the correct designation, e.g. V800. However, when trying to connect to a dialup ISP or via GPRS/3G access via the connections or BT Manager the 2750 tries twice and then shows a dialogue that it cannot connect and there seems thus to be some software/driver hitch. I can see the BT icon on the phone change during the attempts to an BT icon with red radar added, so there seems to be communication between the iPAQ hx2750 and v800. Similar problem with all other phones above.

When trying to dial a number via BT from my contacts the V800 responds immediately and dials, showing the number it is dialling. I can surf the Vodacom site on V800 via GPRS/3G.

The above problem occured with WMobile 2003 SE (1.00.14) and following an update to (1.10.09 ENG) yesterday.

Tried to Live Update BT Phone manager via companion CD software, but although the software installs on the PC, it does not connect to the BVRP site!?! BVRP site does not show BT Phone Manager!?!

Anyone out there have a solution, this is driving me bonkers

Great site!!

Thanks

Dear all,
Problem solved through efficient Sony-ericcson tech assistance.

Needed GPRS/3G phone settings SMSsed to me, setup of new data account on phone and an additional setup string on the iPAQ. Obviously a newbie problem, but hugely frustrating with no real knowledgable help from local HP nor my network operator.

Happy iPAQing!

Have virtually no hair left myself, with a similar sounding problem with HP hx 2410 and a Sony Ericsson V600I and Vodafone UK. Read and browsed lots for the answer.

For future reference for others when trying to solve your problem make sure you get through to the right people on their Helpline. The data crowd were great and solved the problem in 3 minutes. The rest had sent me down lots of wong paths emailed me instructions that did not work, kept me on hold for 30 minutes and dropped the line several times.

In case it is of help to others the UK settings for Vodafone are

Start>>setting>>connections
Click on the connections icon

Then either add a new modem connection or manage existing connections, depending on whether or not you have already tried

Set the modem as a Bluetooth Dialup Modem Click NEXT
Phone number *99***1#
(Make sure dialing rules are disabled click NEXT

User name web
Password web

Click ADVANCED button

General tab
Baud Rate 115200
Remove tick from wail for dialing tone
Extra dial string command Z
(That is just a single capital Z)

Port settings tab
Data bits 8
Parity none
Stop bits 2 ***** had to change this
Flow contrl hardware

TCP/IP Tab
Use server assigned IP address
Use software Compression
Use IP Header Compression

Servers Tab
Use Server assigned addresses

Happy bunny at last.

Thanks for that. The muppets at vodafone support haven't a clue! Now I can connect to the internet with my V600i, the speed that pages load at seems much the same as with a standard GPRS connection? The spec for the phone claims that a 3G connection is capable of 384 kbps data transfer. Is the data transfer limited by the 115200 baud rate of the bluetooth link?
